Post

New to this forum and forums in general, just a little while ago got a 95' 300zx NA and am an avid car fanatic. Trying to learn more but i am not what you would call experienced and wondering about what upgrades would be the most beneficial in horsepower gains in a 300zx NA.

Not trying to do the tt engine swap, tried to read everything i could and pretty much assume that i dont have the money or experience to do it

Any help appreciated!

Go for the normal I/H/E(intake/heeder/exhaust) mods first. They should help your Z breath a little better and free up some HP.

sweet, another n/a guy. like jezter said, the basic i/h/e would be a good start. after that, i would go with an ecu and a 75 shot of nitrous. in all that i would do the underdrive pulley somewhere. after all that, you will probably get about 380 hp. you can still run that much on stock internals.

one last word of advice if you haven't already heard it, trying to get a lot of power out of n/a's is really hard compared to a tt. oh yeah, here is a stage chart for the n/a http://twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/...tages

jim wolf, stillen, and Nissan Motorsports all have upgrades for your N/A, of course adding some lightness doesn't hurt either, Sport Z Magazine did a very good article called "The Lady and the Tramp" they had an N/A Z32 running almost identicle times as a Z32TT

It's all out there for you, intake, exhaust, headers, upsized injectors, Cam's, remapped ECU's

With an NA motor, nitrous can be your friend. It's very cheap compared to tyring to swap in a turbo motor or build your NA up to hold boost. After experience with it in my SRT-4, I have seriously considered throwing a little 50 shot in my J just for that special occation.

N/A 300zx's can be made quick what can I say I ran a 14.08@104 in mine with right at $500 in it. With a N/A nitrous is your friend.

tough to get good power out of the NA Z32 but it can be done. Just start with your basics and build from there

Start with a basic tune up.New nissan plugs wires, and fuel filter.Dyno it! To get a good baseline and make sure that there is no grimlanes.

Good, now for the free stuff:1- take the throttle pully cover off the motor( ya that plastic thing in the middle on top of the intake manafold)2- You will notice 2 throttle cabols.3- Moving the right pully all the way back to simulate wide op throttle, (WOT) Look over at the corresponding throttle body, notice that the throttle plate doesn't rotate to the back of the throttle? WTF? There's about 5% of rotation left! It's not realy at WOT!4- Go back to the pully you can either bend the plate back a bit or remove the screw that stops it. depending on what year you have.5- Do this to both pullys and bingo more power for free.

OK, Intake- serch the clasifides section for an INJEN system used.Full cat back exhaust. and high flow cats.Headers yes if you want to pay for the install.Engine grounding kitChip the ECU (swap a chiped ecu for your stock one)Dyno it! You should be arround 200 wheel hourse power. That's a good start.

You only have 3 options left.stay N/A , Twin turbo swap$$$$, Wet NOS (fuel and NOS injected into the air streem ahead of the throttle bodies).Have fun!

BTW, another good idea is to make sure your tb's are also sync'd, in that the throttle shaft controls both sides butterflies, but is not one piece and it's probable they are slightly off. There are little adjuster screws on the bottoms of the plates that contact the butterflies, which can be used to make sure they crack open at the exact same time...mine didn't years ago on my NA and it helped some with smoother takeoffs.
Make sure your throttle is bottomed out off with the butterfly vertical and closed completely then with any slight move, watch both and make sure they move exactly the same time and from the same start place (start position also can be adjusted IIRC), adjusting the late one a very little at a time until success.
