 Hello there,
I'm new to the forum but been a big fan of the 300zx from I first saw it, I'm 26 and that was prob 14 years ago.
I live in Jamaica and I have a 96 mitsubishi fto, but im thinking of selling to get a 300zx, like the fto the zx isnt so popular here, but I'm feeling to get the zx, is that a good move? btw the only zx I see selling now is a NA 1990 model. was hunting one from before I had the fto, car before that was an integra gsr, this 1990 Z popped up and I'm wondering if I should go get it.

Honestly, a Z32 is a lot more reliable than a 3000GT/GTO in the TT chassis of both, which is kinda insane, considering how needy of a car the Z32 is. Power is easier to come by with the Z as well, also assuming TT, but N/A is quick for itself as well, and it is a much easier car to swap if you get bored with the N/A limitations. Also, another thing I can't believe I'm saying, but the Z is easier to work on IMHO. If you don't have the VR4 trim, it is FWD, so you'd be "upgrading" to a RWD car as well.

What are your concerns?

That's great, I do feel more confident now, and your right the vr4 would be good but I do see it as an upgrade, I'm just seeing if I'm making the right choice here; I should go look at the car tomorrow, will post pics and update you guys
And I do expect the Z to be more fun than the fto, that rwd alone is A+

Give it a good look over, and take detailed pics. Being an island country, I'd check for rust on the undercarriage. Check the engine compartment thoroughly and compare it to pictures on this site: http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/index.html or pics you find on here. Robo has some of the best pics of very clean engine bays I've seen, though.

Connectors are prone to corrosion as well, and I'm sure the humidity there isn't gonna help that out either. Also, make sure the idle is stable. Get the date code of the chassis from the engine bay as well. Some of the early-run '90s had passenger side head issues. Any way you look at it, though, it's an upgrade. Keep us in the loop and we'll steer you right.

Well guys I'm really disappointed, not in the car, but the fact that the seller had a change of heart and decided not to bother sell when I went there :tisk: , the body is still good and solid, he said the engine needs some work and that a cylinder wasn't firing, paint was sunburnt, but overall still in good condition inside out and; it being automatic, hmmm not so hot but still would've loved to have it. I'm still searching.......

Just out of curiosity, How many Z32s do you think there are in Jamaica? I don't imagine too many of these cars would have made it over there? Since the regulations are much more lenient you guys got cars like the FTO (cool car although FWD is sad), all of the EVOs from 1 on up to 10, the GC WRXs and STIs, all the cool datsuns/nissans (GTiR), etc.

I maybe think about 7 or so, or 10. Rare beauty over this side.

I imagine, but like I said, you guys get the chance to have a lot of cars which we cant even have like the Phase 2 R33s and R34 and GTiRs and early EVOs, and S15s.

Too bad your sale fell through, but do keep an eye out for a change of heart and maybe even call him again in a month or so and gently inquire if he's still against a sale. Some people go back and forth with cars, and maybe the extra interest also makes him feel the car would be in good hands...anyway, Good Luck!

If not, you can always buy my shell and build it :) I'll even tow it down to Port of Houston and put it in a container for you. On a serious note, have you explored the possibility of importing one? I'm sure you could find one stateside for a fair price especially in the Gulf states which would mean someone could very possibly be able to drive it to the port and put it on a ship for you.

Or leave the island lol...... thats some serious Z-love. awesome cars man

Sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through, but the statute of limitations for Jamaica is only 5 years for passenger cars. (I'm quite jealous.)

Oh wait, does that mean a car has to be within 5 years of production date to import? If so, that really blows...

Wow...that's extremely harsh.
I would hope (and probably is not the case) that there was the possibility of exceptions, say any import has to pass an inspection where the car has to hit 5 year old emissions and quality standards which would be possible with a top quality '96...I mean the rich folks gotta have SOME way to get their Bentley's and Aston's and such into the country, right?
If you feel that strongly about the Z32, I'd leave no stone unturned finding a way to get one...I spent two years stalking mine!
