Just got a 1988 300 ZX and I think it may have jumped time. Does anyone know of the best method to check it out.

A good timing light will help you out.

I bought the car from a girl that said it was running and just quit. She could not restart. I am concerned that the car jumped time. How do you check it out?

Since it doesnt run that poses a problem with using the timing light, well i don't really know what to say seeing as i dont know much of the VG30E engine. If you checked everything, it can still be a number of odd things.

It has spark. When they towed it here the tow truck guy listened to it and the darn thing almost started. I'm wondering if it is the fuel pump?

The girl said it had spark but it does not. It did almost start when the tow truck guy tried it. Now there is nothing. Took out a plug and tried it and also tried the coil wire to ground. Any suggestions?

I pulled the dist. cap and the rotor is not turning. It sounds like the timing belt is broken. Am I right?

most likely, yes, but it's pretty easy to pull the cover and verify it

If the timing belt broke while driving, don't you think it probably has some bent valves or worse.

Tomorrow will be the test. I will put it back together with a new timing belt and see if I have valve problems.

Problem was the main seal was leaking oil on the timing belt. The belt was in tact but did not have any teeth on it.
