300zx idle start off problem

Ok I just bought a 1990 LHD twin turbo, 5 speed 300zx. The guy said it needs a new starter but I dont think he knew what he was talking about. Anyways, whenI start it up sometimes it just make a bunch of ticking noises like theres no starter or the battery is dead. then other time it starts fine but recently right when it starts it idles drop and if I dont rev it up it will just die. then I go start it after it dies it just turns over for ever. it eventually starts when I push the gas pedal half way in but then I have to rev it up to about 2000 rpm for 5 secs and then it idles fine an runs fine untill I have to start it again. Does anyone know what this problem could be???

the starter clicking issue is likely a bad cable or connection

the hesitation to start and not wanting to idle might be a stocking aiv or air regulaotr
