A few days ago I upgraded to a 300ZX fuel filter because my factory one was tipping the odometer at 167,500 miles. I had heard that using the 300ZX fuel filter is a common upgrade and I haven"t heard of any problems.

However, shortly after I installed the filter, (about 20 minutes or so, when the car got really warmed up) the car began to sputter. It started out pretty mild, but after driving for a few more miles, it got pretty violent. When I launch from a stop, it sometimes feels like it wants to die, and when I accelerate, it feels like I have lost a LOT of power, almost like its mildly backfireing.

When I drive the car cold, there is no problem, only when it is thoroughly warmed up. I figured maybe it was the filter, so I returned it and got a new one. Same problem.

Should I go back to the factory size or does this sound like a different problem?

Any insight greatly apprectiated. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

Zack

You also may want to check the hoses...make sure they're on good and tight and not leaking anywhere.

Yeah, I double checked the direction, and it is on correctly, and I also triple checked the hoses, they are on nice and tight.

Any other possibilities???Thanks guys...

This is just a shot in the dark- but maybe your fuel pressure regulator has gone a little haywire, and with the new, improved flow of a new filter, it is letting in too much fuel and you are flooding a little. I could be wrong, but thats just my .02

I would think the car would be more prone to flooding when it was cold. I would replace the filter with the stock one and see if thats the problem, since its the easiest, cheapest fix to start with.

If that doesn't work then there is alot more troubleshooting to be done.

It couldnt be my air filter because I have a cold-air with a K&N filter which I cleaned about 2 months ago, and haven't had a problem with until now.

I guess I'll go back to the factory size and see what happens.
