Post

so this started as a post as a question but i discovered all the info courtesy of brembo.com, small writeup for some people, may help

for everybody considering a 300zx, q45, or j30 brake upgrade let me break down some info for you right here right now

z32 are 4 piston (better of the choices) come in 26mm (1990 N/A aluminum) and 30mm (1991 -1992.5 aluminum and 1993-1996 iron) thickness in rotors and both rock 280mm diameter and pertrude out 53.7m (30mm) and 57.2mm (26mm)

q45 (1990 - 1996) are 2 piston (better than stock) and come in 27.5mm thickness and 279.5 mm diameter and pertrude out 53.6mm

j30 are exactly the same!!

steps i took in finding this info is:

google.com

search: brembo.com 2008 catologue

north america --> usa

then go from there

all will fit on the s chasis and all require a 5 lug or drilling of a 4 lug into the rotor (performance change has yet to be varified by me, if anybody has info please post)

the minor difference of .5mm in diameter is really not a huge deal as far as i know (still better to use the right rotors!) and the q45/j30 rotors stick out 2mm more than the z32 (if you do the math: 53.7 - 30 = 23.7, 53.6 - 27.9 = 25.7, 25.7 - 23.7 = 2mm!) theoretically you could "shave off" half of the 2mm difference of the q45 rotors to keep it centered in the caliper, they should fit the z32 30mm fine (this will not work for the 26mm as q45/j30 are too thin)

idono if this is a alternative to finding z32 rotors as we all know q45/j30 are readily available in most junk yards

if anybody has any info on the topic please post thanks

How set are you on doing the 5 lug setup?

The easiest way to go about front Z32 brakes on an S13 is to drill a 4 lug pattern into the rotors and then bolt everything on. Remember that you'll need Z32 brake lines and, ideally, a Z31 or Z32 master cylinder (which one is best will depend on your final brake setup).

Best of luck with your project.

OOOOOOOOOOK As for drilling holes in rotors....... NO! The only thing that is going to get you is a cracked rotor and trip to the hospital with a wrecked car... Rotors get cold and hot, hot and cold....over and over. This is a NISSAN forum not a VTEC forum. Info like that is what gets kids hurt.

As for the question, simple and elegant! >> http://importnut.net/300zxbrakeswap.htm

Very useful site, spend the money and do it right! Take pride in your 240

yeah i had always thought that drilling any extra holes in anything compromises it

thats why im preffering a 5 lug swap as opposed to havin 9 holes in the rotor

There is no issue with drilling the new pattern. there is enough room between the bolts to allow for the pattern. mine were drilled by my local machine shop for more precision. alot of people on here have also done it with no issues.

alright then...

i just didnt want a bunch of holes in my rotors (consittering they are new and in the mail right now) that wouldnt be needed

if people do it with no real problems then i say i guess i could go ahead and get them drilled until i get my 5 lug on the way

i cant wait to rock my z32 fronts
