Just like a paint job it really depends on the color that you choose. If you choose a glossy finish you can see a lot more of the imperfections than the matte black. Even though I have been working with vinyl for a long time now, before my car I had never worked on something as large. Up close you will notice the imperfections in it, but from 2.5 feet away or more it is very difficult to see unless you know what you are looking for. The bumpers are definitely trouble some to deal with. The good thing about our cars is that they have a lot of flat surfaces that make it a lot easier to apply vinyl too. I definitely am going to be redoing the front bumper. Having a stillen front bumper with a lot of openings isn't the easiest and the next time I am going to have to do it in more sections. It also helps to have a half way descent paint job to begin with. When I had to peal the vinyl off in order to reposition I would pull entire sections of krylon off the car. And wouldn't you know, a perfect red paint job with no scuff marks on it is underneath the black paint. Pisses me off every time I think about it. I've wasted so much vinyl from pulling up old paint.
There are benefits to having vinyl. If someone decides to do something to the car and messes up a section, all I have to do is rip away the old and replace. Don't have to wait around for a shop to do for me. Have almost any section done within two hours max. If I decide to change colors, takes maybe a weekend to do. If I don't like the way a section turned out, remove old and start over. Not a big loss.
However, over time vinyl will fade. I can live with that.
