300zx Excessive heat over transmission and gas smell

1990 300zx N/a 2+2:

I'm having a problem with my N/a 2+2 the panel over the transmission and stick are getting very hot to the touch and I'm getting a gas smell any time I drive. I know I'm dumping gas, but I can't find any sort of leaks and it has a new exhaust. Any ideas of what to test/look at?
