I bought this car with a slight smoke and the owner said he was just running it rich since the engine was newly rebuilt. The compression is all good, so his story was believable. As I drove it more, the smoke kept increasing. After talking to the shop who rebuilt the motor, he mentioned that he suspected the rebuilt JWT 500 turbo's. I went ahead and pulled the passenger side turbo (PITA), and sure enough, there was a pool of black thick oil in the turbine housing. I looked at the driver's side housing and saw the same soot leaking out of the turbine too. The driver side turbo looks a little tougher to get out, so I will need to pull the motor. I was hoping I could sell the car cause I will be out of town much of the summer and not have time to enjoy it. Now, I need to make this repair to make it sellable.

Now to my question.

Since I need to pull the motor out anyway, I was thinking about replacing the engine wire harness and was wondering if any of you have done this. I pulled the ECU wood cover out and could not see or feel where the harness came into the firewall. Do I need to take the dash off to get to where it penetrates the firewall???

I don't think you have to pull the dash but I've not pulled my harness out, why do you want to replace the harness? is there a problem with it?

There are several corroded plugs and many broken clips. I'd just hate to put it back together and have to look for a loose connection. This really should have been done when the motor was rebuilt.

Thanks for your reply. I'd also like to hear from someone that has done this though.
