I've looked around and the only brand that makes a 300ZX open downpipe is Megan Racing. If I'm not mistaken its for the TT only too. Is there anything out there other than Megan Racing?

I already have a Borla Exhaust system but it doesn't sound how I'd like it to. Should I just get test pipes?

The car I'm looking to put it on is a 1990 NA if it matters.

When you say "open downpipe", what do you mean?

Eliminating the cats almost always results in increased raspiness. There's really no reason to delete them. If anything, swap out to high-flow cats.

Also, what would you like to be different about the sound of your current system?

Asking this because my company builds a sweet catback system for the Z32.

I have looked all over youtube and I saw that a lot of cat less 300s sound like tractors because they are so raspy. When I bought the car it came with a new exhaust (he said it was borla but there wasn't any markings that would prove that) and I'm not wanting to spend a whole lot. I figured that going with a catless, non resinated would give it a beefier sound for cheap without sounding like a tractor. The current exhaust that I have isn't very loud, most of the noise is engine noise rather than exhaust. I'm really just looking for a better sounding car and would give me a little more power without taking too much money from my wallet.

Well, you answered your own question about swapping the cats for test pipes - They'll be raspy.

If it's not marked on the mufflers as Borla, it's not. Also, authentic Borla systems use a very unique tip.

Using a resonator actually makes the sound MUCH better... but the entire system has to be purpose-built, can't just slap in a component and expect it to do what you want.

Have a look at the links at the top of www.brmexhaust.com to learn a little more about what we do. We don't list our Z32 system, but it is available upon request.

"Cheap" / "great sound" / "performance increase" just don't go together.

I think you mean midpipes instead of downpipes (downpipes only exist on TT models). On an NA the midpipes are the pieces that connect the headers to the catback (H-pipe + muffler sections). Some people gut their stock midpipes so that the cats on the end are basically hollow and act as resonators. Then they just buy an aftermarket catback system. Some companies sell upgraded midpipes but none of them are cheap, usually $300+ in either 2.25" or 2.5". If you want a deeper exhaust note, you need either larger diameter pipe or some resonators. The more straight pipe you have (by removing resonators and/or cats), the more raspy it will sound. You can buy universal Magnaflow cats for like ~$65 each on ebay in 2", 2.25" and 2.5".

Do you know any companies that make a 300ZX midpipe? (Any recommendations?)

For mine I bought a pair of slightly used midpipes that a shop made with Magnaflow cats at the end. If you don't necessarily need cats (for inspection), you can get these:

http://www.partshawk.com/product/mgn-315

Instead of cats it has resonators, but that's only for a 5-speed (not sure what you have 5spd or auto).

Specialty Z also sells them, but more expensive:

https://specialtyz.com/shop/300zx/exhau ... pipes.html

Not sure if those are for 5-speeds or auto or both, it doesn't say. You could always call them and find out though
