Hello z lovers. I recently bought a 300zx. Everything worked fine but i failed smog. The tech advised me to put high grade gas and fuel system cleaner to clean out the system because the car was sitting for too long. I installed a new cone filter and did what he told me. Now my car dies right after i start it . If i press gas and rev up the engine for about 10sec then it works fine. Can anyone help me figuring out what the problem might be? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks

I'd tinker with these 2 first:

Are you use you plugged your MAF back in?

Can you better describe the failure? Does it start and then die? Does it run fine after you've revved it for the 10 seconds?

Also, you should always be running 91+ Octane, its all these cars will take.

Please fill out your profile with year and NA/TT.

Thanks for responce. I have a 1900 z n/a. It starts and dies right away unless i gas it for about 10 sec then it rjns and drives fine. When i bought it it was smoking at idle. Then i pit premium gas and lucas cleaner as well as the new air filter.

Make sure all of your idle control hoses are connected. I had a similar problem when I forgot to reconnect the S hose from the balance tube to IACV. Also check to make sure your 3 iacv/AAC connectors are connected. Make sure your base idle is set properly per the article I linked above.

Basically if it's dying right away, it's not getting the air it needs at idle. When you hit the gas you're manually feeding it air, which is why it works.

Figured out the problem. The filter was too small for the car and also my cats are super clogged up (24 year old car) will change the cats and find a better flow filters and that should do the trick.. now got a headache to find the cats that are ca legal:(((
