If a rear subframe busing is leaking will the installation of the 300zx solid bushing collars be a permanent fix for this? I've been reading this thread

zerothread?id=149096

and I think the silicone bushing in that car were toast. He didn't say they were but at 210,000 miles the pictures looked like they were pretty much gone. Thanks

A solid replacement for a silicone filled bushing while taking up the space does conduct a great deal of road, tire noise, and other vibration directly to the frame and body.

People seem to put up with a great deal to avoid spending money they didm't properly budget and save for in repairs and mainteance.

I replaced my rear subframe [in entirety] along with the differential at ~ 220k and 11 years. As many drive fewer miles per year it seems to focus on total mileage rather than exact number of years. The earliest I remember seeing was ~ 160k.

Yeah, a guy in LV did it and Wes has them with solid collars, I think.

But the ride quality will deteriorate as much as the handling may be sharpened. I think Joe can still get the rear subframes.

Well, add me to the "early failure" list as my car only has 103,000 miles. I know you and Maxnix love these cars and yes I have not budgeted wisely(although I can afford to get it fixed). I respect your knowledge and enthusiasm but at this point it is either the collars or "cash for clunkers". As we all know with old luxury cars you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. I guess this is it for me.

In one of Wes' posts he said the added vibration and sound weren't that noticeable. But everyone has there own standards I guess.

I am about to take a second job [partime] to pay for Q45 and AMG C43 repairs and mainteances and coming gasoline prices. After the payments are gone NOTHING CHANGES you still have to layout the same or equivalent in time and money.

After some thought the finest vehicle ever built was a 90-93 LS400.

I cannot wait for electric cars, but people forget if they are driven the same way as V8 they will still need the tires, bearings, suspension, rubber and fan motors, etc.

I want a low power Thorium nuclear reactor for home use to drive a steam turbine

Yes, regardless what one paid used, it is still a $50K (in 1995 dollars) imported luxury V8 sedan. Why owners are surprised parts and labor don't get cheaper is a mystery to me. They don't for any car.

My vote without a doubt goes for the 1995 Q45. Reliable, refined, and relatively inexpensive to maintain compared to its brethern. No timing belts either!

Your information in your profile is incomplete, so we don't know the age of your car.

Nevertheless, in salt snow and heat, it is age and environment more than miles, and 15 years is more than the design limit for silicone filled bushings.

Well, the collars are installed and I don't notice any more noise and/or vibration. It does feel more solid. Maybe I'm not "in tune" enough to be able to tell. Maybe the purists here would be able to tell. But for us normal folk I don't think you'd notice. I think it was a good alternative to replacing the whole subframe member. If anything changes I'll make more notes in this thread.

You put the metal collars over failed OEM bushings without replacing them with polyurethane bushings?
