I have a 92 300zx. I chipped the oil deflector on the intake driverside camshaft right after the seal behind the cam sprocket.
I bought some used cams online from a 96 and they seem to be different.. The VCT valve solenoid that bolts into both intake camshafts isn't do able. the ones that are off don't have the solenoids like the 92.
So is there a way to get around those solenoids?

Or can I use the old camshaft which I used a dremel to make smooth again..? lost here because I cannot find another cam from a 90-93

First, I wouldn't suggest using a Dremel on a camshaft unless you realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly know what you're doing.

Anyway, 1996 cams are the only year that the doesn't have any VTC stuff so yeah those won't work on your 92.

Here's an excerpt from Z1's NA>TT swap guide regarding camshaft differences:
Cams, lifters, locks, retainers, and valve springs ARE the same (90-93)(same Nissan Part #)
The Auto TT has different intake cams (lower lift) but the intake cams on the 5 speed TT, NA, and
auto NA are the same. The different intake cams in the auto TT along with the slightly smaller
exhaust housings on the turbos results in 20 less HP in the auto TT (it was detuned to help the
transmission last longer). All the exhaust cams are the same. The 94-95 cams were different than
the 90-93 but just like the earlier ones they are all the same except for the intake cams on the auto
TT. The 96 cams were ALL the same.
Have you tried asking around the two Facebook parts groups for some used camshafts? Or finding an Infiniti J30 at the junkyard?
