Anyone ever compare the stopping distance between a 240 with its stock brakes and then the 300 brakes? If so, tell me your results.

i havent done it but i remember reading a post of someone that did it. stock 240 brakes beat the 300zx brakes by like 1-2 ft on cold braking. but the 300zx brakes took a lot longer to heat up and when they did heat up they performed better than hot 240 brakes.

Id have to say you don't need the300 brakes unless you are going all out. I had them and they looked good but It was a waste of money. I can lock my factory brakes up and that's good enough for my driver. Better pedal feel with a 300 m/c though.

ok, stoping distance on cold brakes is dependant on how stick your tires are, when your racing larger brakes are good for heat dispersion or if your going down one of those really steep long hills you wont fry your brakes as quick.

300zx brakes rape 240 brakes, they aren't even in the same league. I drove my stock brakes and then rode in my buddies upgraded 300 brakes, and my god it was insane, he could stop the car so much easier to make a tight turn, it made me feel like my car was a toy. Then I hopped into my 240 and tried relitavelt the same things and ended up squealing my tires several times, locking up my brakes and almost drifting, lol.

I disagree you don't need them unless extreme cases, anyone with a sr20 or that drifts I believe these brakes are a necessity. For us semi-stock 240's, no.

I was the one who did the test. Search for it because i don't feel like it lol. There is NO SIGNIFICANT difference in hot OR cold stopping distances. The pedal feel is much better, and the breaks take MUCH longer to heat up with the 300Z upgrade. Unless your tires outgrip your brakes, or you are constantly heating them up, it is a waste of money to do this upgrade on a street car. Period. (credit to exar-kun for helping me come to this realization.) :)

awwww... brings a tear to my eye. :thumbup

Yeah, so:"300zx brakes rape 240 brakes, they aren't even in the same league. I drove my stock brakes and then rode in my buddies upgraded 300 brakes, and my god it was insane, he could stop the car so much easier to make a tight turn"

lets disect this statement. How could he stop the car so much easier? supposing, for just a second, that the tire are the limitng factor in stopping(because in 99% of the cases, they are), how could your friends same wight 240 stop so much easier than yours?

its either:-driver skill (ability to modulate the brakeing force closer to lock-up, IE threshold braking force)-tire grip

because, you can only slow the car down as much as the tire can grip(or resist locking up), so supposing you could lock your tires in a stock 240, you should be able to brake just as neatly and easily as his car with the 300zx brakes.

maybe he has different tires than you, and can modulate the brake pedal better?

seriously, upgrade your tires to something sticky, and try locking them up, you can brake MUCH moer with a sticky tire than something close to stock.

blah, blah,I could go on forever, im sure you got the point.

Imma make a freaking sticky for this soon.-chetthanks to singlecamsam for proving in real-world testing that the above is true :)
