In the rear, everything bolts up like it is suppose to. z32 calipers, z32 rotors. The front you will need a small washer to line everything up properly if you are using the r33 calipers. z32 calipers/rotors would bolt right up.

I have no z32 front rotor to compare with, what is the difference between a J30 front rotor and a z32 rotor? The J30 rotor looks like it would work just fine.

One other question, the z32 uses a hard line instead of the banjo/washers. I just trimmed 3 or so threads off the banjo bolt, hit the flat on the caliper with a file and tightened up the J30 hose directly to the caliper, has this been done before successfully?
What adapters are available so new hoses are not needed?

The j30 rotor is too narrow, 22mm I do believe vs the 26/30mm depending on the type of z32 calipers. R33 calipers require 30mm which the q45 rotor is 26mm. So with a shim on each pad, you are 1mm off on each side which will cause no issues.

What you did with the banjo bolt works just fine. You can also get adapter from summit racing to fit to the stainless steel line and your hard line. I have the specs I will post them on exactly what you need for the fittings.

There are no fittings that will allow you to use the oem line, you have to do exactly what you already did. Lets be real, if you are going that far to upgrade the brakes, do the lines and fluid as well. You can build a set of lines for like $80.

I will order a 1993 z32 rotor and measure against the J30 and report back.

Chump: I tried finding a way to email or PM you since this isn't about brakes. Loved the in-car vid -- nice tap in the turn too :yesnod , you should have hit him harder :chuckle: So my Q is: what have you done to the trans; assume a cooler, and synthetic, and?....

Awesome, I just wouldn't have thought of tracking the car

Sorry for the thread hijack.... You can PM/email me back...

A huge cooler and fluid, that's it.
Tracking the car can help here as I am cutting and modding things most people would never think of.

Only way to win, my friend -- at the top they're all fast drivers, some just have better cars...

I realize I am responding to posts that are like 3 years old but I feel the need to correct some bad info given in this thread. Everything I am about to type refers to FRONT BRAKES ONLY.

J30 front brakes are smaller than 300zx front brakes are. The notion that "the J30 front brakes are made to stop a larger car than the 300zx" is ridiculous. The cars weigh almost the same, and the 300ZX brake rotors are physically larger. The 300ZX caliper is also physically larger than the J30 caliper is, as it is made to accommodate that thicker front rotor and also must house 2 more pistons than does the J30 caliper.

J30 front rotors are 28mm thick x 11" diameter
300ZX front rotors are 30mm thick and 11" diameter (except for the rare 26mm thick x 11" diameter rotor used on the first year or two of the normally aspirated 300zx).

If someone is to do J30 to 300ZX brake caliper swap they will need to get custom brake lines - which are readily available. 300ZX calipers and J30 brake calipers use a different brake line fitting and fastener style.

With regard to Q45 brakes, the 90-96 brake rotors are identical to J30 brake rotors. The Q45 front caliper is virtually identical to a J30 caliper. It is not THE SAME, but the two calipers are so similar as to be close to indistinguishable. One is not an upgrade over the other. The pistons are the same size, the pads are the same size. I have used both brake calipers in various brake swaps on other cars. 97+ Q45s have a larger diameter but same thickness rotor, and larger caliper with larger pistons and larger pads. The newer still Q45s use a similar caliper with a tiny bit larger piston, but actually uses a smaller pad and smaller rotor than the 2nd gen Q45 does.

I've done a heck of a lot of Nissan brake upgrades and even more research on possible future upgrades, I've run like 7 different combinations of rotor and caliper on my car, and I've mocked up a few others, and taken dimensions of a number of others. I'm up to my eyeballs in brake specs for different Nissan/Infiniti cars. Chump if you need some ideas for "OEM looking" brake upgrades for your race car, feel free to hit me up. Nissan has a lot of options and there are some REALLY big rotors you can get on there, or some more modest options which are still an upgrade to the 28mm x 11" J30 front brakes that are neither a lot of work nor a lot of money.

The J30 and Q45 use exactly the same front rotor, and it has a minimum thickness of 26.0 mm, or 1.024 inches. The Q45 and J30 rear rotors are different part numbers. The rear J30 rotor has a minimum thickness of 14.0 mm or 0.553 inches, so is thinner, but has the hat for the parking brake shoes. New pads are 10 mm thick, and should be replaced if they get down to 2 mm. The pads and calipers on the J30 and Q45 are different part numbers.

Nealoc , thanks for your post and interest in this antique thread, I am responsible for digging it up.

As of right now I believe the z32 calipers I have are the bigger aluminum ones but what baffles me is the mock up, no time or budget to make changes so we are forging ahead.

I have fitted the calipers with a piece of .030 shim to correct the center line on the j30 rotors and have ordered custom race compound brake pads .5mm thicker.

please give me a way to contact you offline or we can continue here

hmmm. . . So will z32 front rotors work in conjunction w 96' q45 front calipers?? (theres obviously a greater selection of aftermarket rotors with the z32 than the q45)
