Anyone have any idea why one shouldn't go with some rebuilt calipers (front & rear) from a '91 300ZX TT from autozone or NAPA when upgrading the 240sx brakes?

I see heavy throttle's OEM prices for their brake upgrades are quite expensive, and only include the fronts. I can get a full set of calipers (4 piston front, 2 piston rear) from autozone for $240.

I figure these are OEM too as they're remanufactured (what would they be remanufactured from otherwise?).

So can anyone give me a reason this might be a bad idea to do?

I think you need modified brackets, check the installs page on 240sx.org.

As for the price, expect to double ($60 core charge per caliper) that unless you can come up with actual 300zx cores or convince the parts guy that your old 240sx calipers are actually 300zx calipers.

Don't need brackets, the Z32 calipers bolt right in.

Use the 240sx calipers as cores, autozone peeps usually don't have a clue.

do you need to replace your master cylinder with a z32s'? will it effect the abs?

So are you saying that doing this would be just as good as going OEM from a dealer or remanufactured from the likes of heavy throttle or PDM-Racing? I'd love to not pay out the butt for these.

heavy throttles prices arnt that bad. Considering they dont fool around with cores. they give you calipers, front and rear pads, front and rear brake lines, and front and rear rotors for somewhere around 800-900 dollars. If i can recall the brembo kit costs an upwards of 2500 and the rotara kit costs 3000 and the endless 6 piston kit and alcon kit costs over 4g's. I coulndt bare to lie to autozone, and if i built up the courage, i'd get the one nissan fanatic in there.

the cheapest way is to just goto a junk yard and get the calipers off of a z. I did my brake upgrade, I got some used calipers and kept the stock rears, did kvr brake pads all around, earls steel braided all around, kvr rotors in back ,and brembos in front. i forget how much i paid, but it was around 900 or so. also dont forget, you'll need a z32 mastercylinder, unless mad pedal drop and white-knuckle braking experiences are your thing. If your boosting, you need to add a one way valve between the brake booster and intake manifold too.

I believe the autozone and napa calipers don't come with the needed clips and pins. So you would have to order that.

Will the dealer sell these parts seperatly? And isn't it just one or two pins?

Watch out at Vatozone.......if you live in the Metro Denver region anyway. There have been quite a few people trying to turn in their 240 cores for 300ZX units but "the Zone" has gotten wise to it.

The local NAPA warehouse is even worse. They cross-reference pieces with various catalogs, plus the two older guys that work there REALLY know their stuff! I don't know how it is in other areas of the country, but here in Colorado 240's seem to be rare so when a lot of people (six) try to do the same thing, it seems pretty obvious that something is up!
