Here's the deal, I installed 30mm z32 brakes and the 1 1/16 master cylinder on my 98 kouki today. I spent about an hour bleeding my lines to ensure all the air is out and took her for a test drive. As I was driving i noticed it sounded as if something was rubbing but nothing was. When I brake it also sounds as if something was rubbing and has a creaking almost popping sound coming from the caliper. I had to put some spacers on it to get the wheels to clear could this be the problem? I really need some advice, I'm about 5 minutes away from taking a BFH to the damn thing.

the rubbing sound is only noticeable when you apply pedal pressure? if so, then maybe your pistons are stuck or are not pushing out evenly.

is the noise there if you spin the wheels? what size spacers did you use?

more details=more help

Did you clean the shims/pins?

Almost new pads and rotors. What do you mean by clean them? I sprayed them down with brake cleaner but I can't imagine how not detailing them would make rubbing noises. The spacers are some cheapo 5/16 in Pep Boys brand temps. The rubbing occurs when i apply brake pressure and when I make big turns could the creaking be that the calipers need to be tighter?

yeah, something is not right.... what are the specs of your wheels? it doesnt make sense that swapping the brakes would make your car rub while turning..... 5/16 is not that much. you are going to have to inspect and see exactly where the rubbing occurs...

The wheels are 18x8? with a 225 tire and a crazy high offset, hence the need for the spacer. I have a bout 4 mm of clearance between the caliper and wheel. It's really worrying me, I hope I haven't messed anything up. I literally unbolted everything and then bolted up the new. Also, with the master cylinder, does it matter which brake lines go to which ports as long as the fronts are on the fronts and the rear is on the rear? Sorry for the nubbish questions but better safe than sorry.

Two bolts that holds the calipers are tight? It might appear to be tight, but make sure they are tight and no play. ALso, there's a break in process for new pads and rotors. You should get on the highway early Sat morning and do that.

I know that rubbing sound. you're pads are not fully seated. what you're hearing is the vibration. I hope you're using the shims that comes with the calipers. the clearance is not even an issue. calipers don't move up and down alone; it's the whole suspension.
