I'm just curious about what the benefits are with the IRON 300zx brake calipers....I know the aluminum calipers would be lighter but what other differences are there with these calipers.

Thanks

higher strength, means less chance of fatigue. less thermal expansion as well.

good question, I have the same ones, too. I heard that the iron calipers are good if you want to stay with stock rotors, but if you go with a kit or something and upgrade the rotors to say, brembo, then you would be good with aluminum. I was told that the aluminum ones dissapate heat rapidly, causing stock rotors to warp as they are still hot. upgraded rotors (crossdrilled/slotted) are able to cool faster.

now, what's up with the 26mm vs. 30mm? major stopping power diff.? and will the 30mm fit inside stock rims? I've seen that the upgrade fits, but it's unspecific which one it is. can anyone clear this up?

BEDavis04 has the 30mm TT aluminum brakes on his S14 SE, the stock SE 16" rims fit over the brakes, barely! Look at Ben's site at http://www.cardomain.com/id/2fortecrazy

heres stock vs. 30mm Brembos:

AJ-SPEC ... .. i was planning on getting cross drilled rotors with my 30mm iron calipers but from what i've read on this forum...cross drilled rotors warp and crack ... also more dust comes off the cross drilled rotors...do you guys have any input on slotted rotors...???

I heard the same thing too, and I know a guy who roadraces that drives a supra with mamoth rotors, cross drilled and slotted. he told me that that can happen, and when it does, the cracks are around the cross drilled areas. but it really doesn't happen that much, and plenty of people still use them. This is for roadracing. I imagine they will do fine on the street, as you will not be able to subject your brakes to anywhere near the same amount of heat for that amount of time. roadracing events are usually 4-5 20min. sessions, full out by the 3rd session, and races are anywhere from an hour to 24hr marathons.

also, brembo rotors have a good reputation, and you will probably use a semi metallic pad anyway. if you run race pads and run in a hardcore racing event, you will go through rotors, no mater what kind. race pads are crap on the street, you have to heat them up to work, and they cool quickly also.

yeah i looked up Carbon Rotors and mmm...i don't think so...they're $2119.00 ...from what i can find on google...the pads are only meant for drag racing...mostly for funny cars that pump out like 1000hp...

ALL 1992.5-1996 300zx's, turbo or non-turbo doesn't matter. All of them used the 280mmx30mm rotors.

stock pads! no, but I'd say try some porterfield R4-S, they're a street compound carbon/kevlar pad, good wear and rotor friendly, and have good bite in all temp. ranges. "good for spirited canyon runs, autocross, and some track days." quoted from roadrace engineering, an eclipse shop I used to read up on. they're a little more expensive that matrix metal masters, but I've heard really good stuff about them.
