Hello, i am new to the forums and i apologize for my noobness, new to the z32 in general.
How ever im here because i need help with my Z. Its a 1996 therefor OBDII compatible and getting a "check engine" light on. Plugged in the Code Reader and popped up code "P0505" relating to the AAC or Idle Air Control Valve...

I was wondering if any parts from the Infiniti J30 can fit the 300zx? I heard they share same engine and transmission?
I found an AAC from the infiniti and seems the same except from the "T" shape tubes where the air goes into the actual valve. I heard there are more than one versions of AAC that Nissan produced and that these two will perform the same. Can anybody confirm this? :gotme I will post pictures to help. Note that my car idles perfectly stays under 1k RPMS just need the CEL off for smog purposes here in California in a couple months. Need to pass inspection.

The Z32 AAC

**Notice the back part of it how it differs with this one that i found and want to get..

Its a bit blurry but you get the idea...

And this is the Infiniti j30 Valve, looks the same but T tube differs.....

Will they both work the same???

Also sorry for the bothersome but was wondering if anyone has been successful with relocating there knock sensor to the top of the plenum? My Z threw a code a week ago or so, erased and hasn't came back yet but it sometimes does after 100-200 Miles...

Any help will be highly appreciated.

What is the purpose behind relocation? Personally I wouldn't 'muddy' up the aesthetics with it

Not sure on the interchange, but you are correct that the J30 and Z32 share the same engine more or less and alot of the same components. It seems like the AAC unit is identical, except for the vacuum ports on the back. I think it's just a matter of hose routing, i.e. the J30 has the hoses in a different position than the Z32 so they made the port position different. If you can get a cheap used J30 AAC I don't think it would hurt to try.

As for relocating the KS, many people have done it successfully. I plan on doing it myself when I get my engine pulled. The stock one sits underneath the lower intake manifold and is a real PITA to get to if it breaks. And based on other's experiences, they only last around 100k or so. Relocating it to the back of the plenum is much better than running without one, and makes replacement way easier.

Here's the tech article on it from tt.net:

Interesting. First off thanks for your response I highly appreciate it! As for the AAC I will use the J30 one and just reroute vacuum lines. I don't see why it shouldn't work? And as for the KS I know its a PITA to replace but honestly don't know if its 100% safe? Will the sensor still be able to "hear" the knocking and pinging? Do you think it will be safe to run the car with the relocated KS for another 100k without harming the engine?

Thanks in advance.

I'm confident that it will. I prefer the method that relocates the KS to the back of the intake plenum on the bolt that attaches the lower intake to the upper (last method on that tech article). That way the vibration can travel through the lower intake right up the bolt to the KS.

Since your car is non-turbo, the internals are under a lot less stress than a turbo model, so rod knock shouldn't really be an issue. As long as you change the oil regularly with good quality oil and don't let it get low, rod knock shouldn't happen. If the engine was really high mileage, it would be more of a possibility, but since yours is only at 120k it should be fine. Also, if you really do have a rod knocking it will probably be pretty audible

Btw, spell check put "not possible" in my post above, but I meant "not positive" ;)
