Ok so ive had the car since august and have been putting parts into the car to get it ready for spring time. When I bought the car I was told the ecu was from an automatic (its a 5spd) and would not turn off. When i turned the key off the lights stayed on and I had to pull the fuel relay in order to turn the car off. Now with the new ecu, (#24 A18-A22 M59), the dash lights turn off and the car stays running.

I have been told it could be the ignition switch, which I replaced and it didnt help. Just installed a new ignition cylinder and switch, same problem. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but this ones got me ripping my hair out. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

what happens if you stall out the car? Do the lights go off? Also try moving the shifter around after its stalled and see if all the lgihts go off. I had the same problem on my old car. It was a short with the ignition system

the lights turn off with the key but the motor keeps running. Also, I just checked the EGI and ignition coil relays under the hood, they are both reading 70-80 ohms which i have been told is ok. Did a little digging into the wiring harness through the wiring harness and this is what I found:

pin 109 (14awg) is spliced with 59 and 49, they are all ecu power-eccs relays.
pins 50 and 60 (ecu ground circut) are sliced into a mess of about 6 black wires.
pin 58 (battery power - memory w/b) is spliced into three other white black wires.
pins 41 (CMPS-CAS (ref) g/b) and 42 (CMPS-CAS (pos) g/y) are sliced into a single g/b wire
pin 38 (TPS input signal) is spliced into two grey 14awg wires, but I have already adjusted the TPS, set at .44
pins 52 (CMPS-CAS (ref 90-94) g/y) and 53 (VSS-speed sensor g/y) are spliced to a single g/y wire
pin 45 (ignition switch b/r) is spliced to a single 14awg b/r wire

I'm going to check the resistance of all the spliced wires when I get home along with the voltage from the ignition switch to the relay and the relay itself.
I know I need a new EFI harness but i'm just trying to get this on the road

Here's some info on the 5-speed swap and wiring, I had mine done by a Z pro and have had no issues with anything except the lack of the clutch safety that only comes with the manual wiring harness.
There's another wiring tech article above this one...I'd bookmark this page as TT.net has a lot of good tech articles.

alright so I read somewhere that leaving the egi relay unplugged fixed the problem. It did, however with the clutch pedal depressed and the car in gear, once you step on the gas the car almost immidiatly trys to stall itself out. This only happened with the car was in gear. Also, the radio worked with the relay unplugged. With the relay plugged back in the car moves fine, idles fine, but will not turn off again and the radio yet again gets no power. any ideaa? im out of ideas.
