I'm doing a 5spd swap in my 300zx.

1990 300zx 2+2 automatic n/t.

My parts included:

91 TT 5 spd tranny91 TT flywheelclutch pedal5spd break pedalexedy oem clutch5spd drive shaft ( front half)all boots and brackets etc. throwout bearing sleeve from a kaall oem hardlines new clutch/slave cylinder

I started today finally, i got a 5spd brake pedal, well the pedal didn't seem to fit my car correctly, i tried many different things but nothing worked. so after hours i finally just cut my factory brake pedal and put the oem boot on it.

I just cut it off and modified the boot to fit on.

woo. Pedal one.

I didn't do the clutch pedal yet, i wanna get a drill bit for that still.

But I proceeded to take the shifter out. there is 4 bolts and a pin that holds it in.

This is my 91TT transmission with the y bracket and shifter bolted on, I still have to purchase a pin and a bushing for the shifter. There wasn't one on mine.

I'm using the front half of the tt drive shaft and bolting it to mine.

Day 2

if anyone knows my car it was wrecked in the front fender area, so the fender was crinkled like paper. So i got a new one..I'll be painting it black to have my car all one color for now..

So today i decided to finish up my pedals, install the clutch pedal and such. I gotta wait for a bigger drill bit to put the master on, but i got the pedal bolted on and it fits and lines up nicely..

Then put most of the dash back in.

Today is the day, I finally finished the swap.

I pulled the car into my dads shop and we weren't going to pull the exhaust off, but we decided to in the end because it was much much easier, plus i wanted to gut the cats. hehe

So we started with that, and then moved onto removing the transmission harness, it plugs into the harness on the front pass strut tower, you don't need it so take it out completely, i cut mine off the transmission because i'm lazy.

Then i removed the starter, leave the starter harness, because that harness is exactly the same manual or automatic.

Basics, remove automatic transmission and flywheel. Take off the automatic pilot bushing, and bolt the new flywheel in, then install the clutch.

Now for the clutch hardline, it was simple, very simple so simple i'm shocked. I used all oem lines, fed it from the bottom under the master cylinder and wala, then just push it up so the transmission won't touch it and your done.

Then the rest is basics, install the new transmission, the driveshaft, and the speed sensor. I currently don't have reverse lights, I have to figure that out, I haven't yet.

The one plug in that doesn't go into the manual transmission, I'll get a picture of it if anyone wants it, its a grey male connector, take the 2 connectors in it and put them together with a wire. That's for the neutral safety switch. Just watch out don't start your car in gear, because you can.

Then go up top, install your shifter trim boots and stuff, and make sure you can start your car. If not you did the safety switch wrong.

This swap is very simple, my car acts like a whole new car as a manual, so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask, i can get any pictures you want etc. When i do the reverse lights I'll let you know how i do it.

Flywheel and exedy oem clutch setup, you can see the hardline for the clutch, its nowhere special.

I'll show a picture of the shifter trim and boot tomorrow, I don't have the trim right now or anything, I wanna go oem not aftermarket so i'm waiting to get it all new.

Wow, what did you pay for parts? I'm looking at trading my 2002 Yamaha R6 for an automatic ZX and will definitely be converting to 5speed if I trade.

well a tt swap is more expensive then an n/a swap is, by a few hundred dollars.

But i got my clutch new from exedy for 200 shipped est, paid 450 for my transmission, flywheel, driveshaft, shifter, pedal, lines, etc.

I have an n/a 5spd transmission for sale btw. ;p

The trannys are the hardest part, i found out they're very expensive, so just look around and get a good deal on one. If you do a tt swap on your n/a obviously its a better transmission, better clutch/flywheel etc.
