I purchased a 1984 300ZX 50th Anniversary Edition from a local aircraft mechanic that performed an engine swap with a low mileage JDM motor. I never checked the block number until the head gasket was compromised

. I discovered that he used a VG30DE non-turbo swap and just bolted up the engine to the Turbo and wiring harness. No check engine lights were present when I picked up the car. I sent the instrument cluster out for a rebuild while I was having the body freshened up with a new paint job and original striping placed back on the car. I was also sold a new Nissan fuel sending unit from a local Nissan store that does not match with the digital gauges. So, the questions...
- Is there a reason to scrap the motor and try to find a new VG30ET block or motor and start over? Normal Aspirated block does not have the detonation sensor needed for the turbo.
- If so, does anyone here have a rebuildable VG30ET motor you would like to sell?
- Does anyone here have a correct fuel sending unit or know how to modify the other one with the proper resistance to make the fuel gauges work with the digital dash?
- Anyone have a complete working AM/FM stock Cassette deck that they might like to sell me? I am in the process of making this an all-original car if possible.
- My understanding is the NA engine and turbo engine are exactly the same except for the detonation sensor. I have heard only the oil pump is different. Is that correct? If so, would the car be just a valuable with the current engine or would it discount the value in a new buyers' eyes?
