Post

Ok so to revamp my original post. I have a 300zx 2+2 that the motor blew on. I took it to a shop called Dr. Z Tuning/ Z King Nation

They "rebuilt it" and converted to Twin turbo for me. I go pick up the car and don't even get home and it breaks again (idler pulley fail). The car gets towed back to the shop where he attempts to fix it again...long story short i get the car home...driving down the freeway throttle sticks and i have to tow car home. get it opened up and there is a bolt jammed in the butterfly of the throttle body. upon further inspection, the "555 injectors" i paid for turned out to be stock injectors and half of them were failed and not working. So i pull them out and decide to see what else is wrong.

By the end of my inspection, i was surprised the car ever made it down the street. He took a stock NA motor and threw turbos on it, and ran with the money.

for about 1200 you can get a top of the line piston and rod combo. wiseco or cp pistons, and eagle rods

What type of pistons would you guys recommend? iwant 500-600 HP but also to keep it Daily Driver.

thanks ahead of time

also i want Best BANG for my Buck
what's the fastest car that you have ever driven? 500 to 600hp as a daily driver?
600hp is very difficult unless you run race fuel.

you're on a budget yet you want 500 to 600hp, it doesn't work like that. you have to set realistic goals if you're on a budget, that fmic is a bottleneck first of all and won't help with your power.

if you want 600hp, budget yourself about 25,000.

Why does it matter what the fastest car i have driven is? and yes i said 500-600 somewhere in between there and yes daily driver, thanks for asking a question i answered in my initial post...im not a little kid thank you.

You have no idea how much money i have or have not speant so far so how can you assume im on a budget just because i said i want to spend around a grand for pistons.???

How is Front mount intercooler my bottleneck?

This was a posting asking about waht piston set i should buy...??
it matters what the fastest car that you have driven is because 500 to 600hp is no joke, in terms of traction, suspension, handling, etc. 400hp is no joke.

yes, because you said a grand for pistons AND rods, that's a pretty good assumption that you're on a budget.

you don't even know why your fmic is a bottleneck, yet you want 500 to 600hp, you should do some hw before you set unrealistic goals then. because fmic's (most of them) are laggier than the good smic's that you can buy such as the aspec massives or even the stillen/z1 ones.

i said MOST fmic's, the TDM fmic (1,700 dollars) is pretty good.

100 dollars say you don't have that though, let me guess, godspeed or ebay fmic?
find me ONE z that's running a fmic, not TDM-style that's making 1,000hp+.

i'm not assuming, i KNOW you haven't done ANY research. if your budget is 1,000, and you want pistons and rods, you would have already known that it's probably wiseco pistons and eagle rods.

Thats what i was thinking as well... just figured i would ask to see what experience people have had with this.

Any tips on how much oversize to go? or is it more recomended to just go 1 size over current bore?

And before vulcan chimes in... YES i am new, we all know that you know everything so save it and let someone who is ghoing to actually help post something

How much horsepower are you guys running on stock rods? I would really hate to be this deep in the motor now and not replace something that breaks later haha :-)

Thank you all for your help!

just out of curiosity your not using the stock NA motor are you the heads for the twin turbo and NA are different if i remember correctly and the injectors are different. also what turbos do you have. i have done the twin turbo swap for the 2+2 and the easiest way to do it is get a front clip it has everything you need on it so you can keep air conditioning i didnt get the front clip so i had to get rid of the ac condenser to fit the pipes for the side mount intercoolers also you will need a boost gauge and a boost controller if you have any questions feel free to ask as i have been down the conversion road and it was a pita also try not to bash on members they are just trying to help. and as a wise Z guy once said on his signature "pick two (fast, reliable, cheap) i went fast and cheap and my Z has been down for three years now

Thank you for the reply!

Yes the tt and na head are different...however, from my research, they are interchangeable without any problems.(minial HP loss)

AS for turbos i bought brand new GSP600's (t28).

I didnt buy a front clip because i originally had a shop do the swap and they jacked it up and got away with almost $7800...but thats another topic all

and im out on the AC too... but i will eventually just order a tt a/c condenser and put it in :-)

I am running a FMIC as well.

Also have Prosport Evo Gauges for boost water temp and soon Air/Fuel.

I wasnt bashing anyone, but i will not stand for someoen coming at me rude assuming one thing without even asking :-)...I definetley appreciate any help, but there is no need to be rude when giving it ya know.

What area are you in Epick

Zfan4life, Vulcanrush is actually right.

You seriously need to pick two: Cheap, Fast, Reliable, by you saying that you only have $1,000 for internals of the motor that means you went with cheap already.

Also note that you will need a selin dual maf translator. The stock maf is only good for 500 so if your trying to acheive 500hp reliably you will need it.

Good luck.

I never said i only have a grand for internals... i was asked, "how much you looking to spend" i said AROUND a GRAND for pistons and rings...I have already put 8 grand into this swap... Its not what he said that i had a problem with, its the way he came off with it...

I have been searching and researching and have found pistons/rings/rods (reputable) for 1100 all the way to 1700.

I will go back to my first post and update everything that i have done/am doing :-)

Thank you Sir

Sounds good. Let us know as much info as possible of what you have and what you plan on doing. (post the brands aswell - don't just say "FMIC". Brands have alot to do with reliability as well as many MANY other things. :bigthumb: )

Done as best i could for right now...as i remember more i will continue to update.

Most of the stuff i bought i bought because people have used and have proven it works. Now granted im sure there are gunna be some people that knock certain brands because of their experience with it...i understand and welcome respectful comments about your experience. Everyone has a different experience :-)

I have reported them to the BBB and the California Auto Bureau... but other then writing it up, there is nothing they can do. This guy is a danger to people!

Yea i am having fun with this build. I should have done it my self in the first place. Its not necessarily "hard" but if you dont know the little tricks of things it can be time consuming!

Thanks for checking it out! Any other pics u guys would like let me know! Hoping to have the build done in a month or so!
