Hey all,

Im a pretty amateur car guy, but Ive had my 1990 240 for about a year and have been following the posts here and slowly getting smarter. I was wondering if it was feasible, or even worth it, to drop a 300Z motor into a 240SX.... Seems to me that a twin turbo V6 would offer a lot more opprotunity for power and speed than any of the four cylinder engines, or am I complletely bass ackwards? Would it fit? Could you get the same performance from a smaller engine? Has anyone ever done this before?

Just curious. Thanks!

Oh, and is any one here from Athens, Ga. Ive seen at least four other 240s driving around.....

I'm an amateur myself, but one of my best friends is a mechanic for the local Nissani dealership. According to him, nothing is more of a nightmare than a 300z. Supposedly the engine in that car is the worst engine to work on because everything is such a pain in the a$$. I wouldn't think the VQ could fit in a 240 chassis, it's a big engine physically. Not to mention the wiring nightmare. I'm sure anything is possible with enough time and money, but I really don't think it's worth it. Nissan engines are built like tanks, my KA has over 209k miles and is still running strong. The SR20DET is no exception. The stock bottom end has been known to handle ~400bhp. I'd stick with the SR20.

The swap is all custom, very expensive. I'd guess for the same price you can do a Skyline swap.

Yep... RB25/26 swap would be a better way to go 6cyl turbo. No sense in spending lots of cash putting a vg30dett into a 240 when you can find a decent Z for the same amount of money.

Yeah, good point about being able to find a decent Z for the same price as a swap like that... What is an approximate price for swapping in an SR? Just the engine, but having someone else do the installation (Waaaaaay above my head)?

doing the VG30DET is a good swap into the 240...i wouldnt try to squeeze the vg30dett though...you can get a lot of power out of the z31 motor, and they are strong motors....thats the way i would go if you wanted a 300z motor.

an sr swap will probably run about 3000...it all depends on where you get the engine...here are some sites to look at...

http://www.heavythrottle.com/http://www ... uning.com/

there are more of them but i cant think of them right now...hope this helps.

the engine bay for s13's are relatively small, I don't think a v6 would fit in there with enough room for the engine to move about. But hey if anyone this a v6 conversion I wanna hear your story.

the vq is the vq35... the engine in the 350z.

the engine he is referring to is the vg (vg30de(tt)) in the 300zx.

I am 16 and I owned a tt and did my own work... you just have to not be a baby and learn the motor.

BTW, I am not saying anything bad about you for saying that it is a ***** to work on (it is) but the trade-off is that the motor can hold 600fwhp on stock bottom end. compromises.

to answer your question: you want an sr20 motor swap done by a reputable shop. if the sr20 swap is way over your head the problems you would encounter with the vg in a 240 would drive you insane.

My mistake, I meant to say the VG.

You mean VG30ET right?

RWHP, not F.

Once again, no.

FWHP = flywheel horsepower, not front wheel horsepower, since we're talking about a rear wheel drive car that wouldn't make sense, now would it?
