I got into a stoplight to stoplight race with a 3000gt non turbo. It was ragged and other than my hs header i'm stock with 150,000 on the odometer. I beat him off the line and had him by half a car length when I hit 3rd. By then we were at the next light. I'm proud of my little nissan but I think if we would have went much further he would have had me.

I hear this all the time from people who have races with N/A 3000GTs. You gotta specify WHAT trim of N/A 3000GT. The SL model which most people are familiar with comes with 222 horses but they did make a base model that was a single overhead cam with only 160 horsepower while still weighing like 3100 or 3200 pounds. The base model is reaaal slow and I don't know why but people with them pick races all the time and give the 3000s a name of slow pieces of as$(VR-4 excluded). Good job though, base or SL.

97-99 had the base model 160HP crap car

94-96 had the base model 220HP

91-93 had the base model 222HP

If you were running the late 97-99 model w/ 160HP, you would win easily.

If you were running the 91-96 w/ 222HP you might have to strap on your Nike's for that extra boost.

*DISCLAIMER- NOT CONDONING STREET RACING*

I raced a 3000gt N/A once. It was the base model that weighed less than the SL but retained the same HP. It was available for only one year I think it was in 96 or 97 can't remember. I was at his door the first run and at his front fender the second run. All of this was run on a full quarter-mile. I launched on his *** so badly it wasn't even funny but around 75ish he started pulling hard. This was all back when I was n/a and my best time was a 15.3 @ 91.1

The SL's are slow because they are heavy and FWD who cares if they have 220 hp. But the base model like that kid year are the fastest cause they are lighter and still have 220hp.

Bottom line: Go VR-4 or get a different car because N/A those cars are ghey as hell.

I personally like N/A 3000s for driving around cars, but if you wanna go fast, go vr-4. They're not expensive anymore so picking up one shouldn't be hard. You'll be glad you did when ur on the line next to some FR or FF and all you do is bring it to 6k rpms yawn and release your clutch and end up multiple car lengths in front.

Kaioshin1982 if you're interested in getting a 3000GT go to http://www.3si.org and take a look around and talk to some of the guys there. Even asking stupid questions you likely wont get the A$SHOLES who postwhore by telling you to search all the time. Just don't ask about lifter tick as that is the most asked question in the 3000 community.

VR-4's defintely have some pull. The NA's are horrible for the weight they have to carry. Took my buddy's 91 to 148MPH one night. Stock you start running out of steam at the top of 4th gear. Get the engine to flow better and pulls real nice.
