New owner of a 2013 Nissan Rogue, not an S, just a plain Rogue.

It looks like there is a 30 pin connector in the center console. I'm not sure what that is for. From what I understand that is a Apple product-specific connection, but what does it do? I have an iPhone 6, but does not have the 30 pin port that the older iPhone had. I have seen adapters that go from 30-pin to lightning connector, so wondering if that will allow me to play my music on my iPhone through the car speakers?

Sitting beside the 30-pin port is a cigaret lighter. I have a USB adapter for that, but if I plug my iPhone 6 into it, will my music then play through the speakers?

Also, there is a button on the dash for iPod. Are those two connections in the center console connected in some way?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Usually things like that are covered in your owners manual. When I drive I like the sounds of silence so I don't pay much attention to the audio system.

Jarhead the sound of Your silence was of great help here....... I think he would have looked at that if he had the answer he would not be asking.

I can assure you that the cigarette lighter is in no way connected to your sound system. It's just a 12 volt power supply. You can yes use it to charge various equipment like cellphone 's and GPS systems.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Another question about the in-console cigarette lighter. If I plug a USB dongle into it, will it find my iPhone 6 and be Blue Tooth enabled? And again, there is an iPod button on the dash. Since my iPhone 6 can be used as an iPod with my music, how do I connect it so the iPod button will work with my phone. Can I buy a 30-pin connector with a lighting wire on the other end to convert the 30-pin to connect to my phone. Will that enable the phone to play through the car speakers?

I had a 2013 Rogue & here's what I can remember about the subject (memory not what it used to be):
The Rogue came with a special connector for the 30 pin socket in the centre console. The cable came with the Rogue & mine was right there in the centre console when I got the vehicle new.
You plug that cable into the 30 pin hole & the other end of the cable had a connector for a phone or iPod.
At the time I had an iPod, an iPohne 5S & an iPhone 6 - not sure but think I used it mostly with the iPod.
Once the connection was made the button on the dash acts like an AUX & the iPod would play thru the speakers.
IF/IF you had one of the original cables (should be able to get from the dealer) you could see what's on the other end
(might be a USB plug) & then if you had an adapter to go from that to a lightening connector you might be able
to make it work with your iPone 6.....
Hopes this helps a bit - sorry I don't remember totally but I did indeed play music from a device (iPod?) thru the speakers.....

I have the PDF Rogue owner's manual, but i poured over the audio portion and saw no reference to playing music (or whatever) through the car's speakers.

This was super helpful. I can buy an 30 pin connector with a lightning cord on the opposite end, so I will try that to see if I can play music through the car's speakers. THANK YOU.
UPDATE: The car did come with a 30 pin connector, but it was 30 pin on both ends. I ordered a 30 pin to lightning cord adapter from Amazon and it came with another cord that looks like it will plug into the audio jack in the phone, so we will see how this works. Amazon is great, because if it doesn't work, you can send it back, no charge!
