Everyone should hang in there on MPG results. My two prior cars were Honda Accords; neither one seemed to be broken in during the first 10K miles. The '92 at 280K miles is still getting 26 - 30 MPG in the Dallas metroplex, depending on traffic and roads while the '01 produces 27 - 30 in the same conditions. Open road trips on both cars consistantly return mid-30s MPG.
Just a note for consideration: our doctored gas in the metroplex absolutely kills MPG during the mandated additive use time period from April through October? I keep detailed records on gas use and maintenance and can see the MPG change when the additive increases. I even track the store selling the gas for comparison between brands. As I understand the rules gasoline volitility is lowered to help reduce smog. The Dallas area probably has the worst smog in the nation now.
Trips through eastern Oklahoma give great MPG when I can buy out in the boonies. The fuel smells different too. Usual increase with rural gas (outside a federal control area) is 10 -15 per cent. I make this trip 2 -4 times per year and the results are always the same.
The Versa (ie - Lucky) is currently averaging 30.4 MPG with the trend nearing 31.
Sorry for the rambling, but auto gas mileage just isn't straight forward anymore. You must look at longer trends to see how your V is performing.Look at it this way, my 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s cars couldn't come close to what is achieveable today.
