I live in Western North Carolina in the mountains. I drive 9 miles to work and I make 176 curves (yes, I have counted them) one way to work and cross 3 mountaintop ridges.

And I still get 29.55 miles per gallon!!

Little Blue has 20,000 miles on it, and hubby just took of the brake pads to see how they might be worn. They were fine, great in fact. He has a device to measure the thickness of stuff, and he said the pads were worn about the thickness of a piece of hair.

so good news on this 4th of July

Have a safe and happy 4th to you all.

Hey, monkey bizzer! A few miles away from you, here in Henderson County. A few more miles, too, and still on the original brakes with no problems. We're right on the Eastern continental divide, and I see a few curves, too, but most of my driving is interstate. Glad you're getting the mileage you're getting - I know the roads around Franklin!

Hi, you two. We spent Christmas in Maggie Valley, right near you. That is a really beautiful part of the country.

Will be on my way to Blowing Rock and Boone Sunday. Wished I could find a job up there, the heat kills me.

I work at the Lowe's CSC office in Wilkesboro, and they're always hiring, biggie.

Yea, we were lucky enough (and it was pure dumb luck) to move from FL 5 years ago, and up here in NC. Lumber was just going up because of rebuilding Iraq. We had to 2% additional to the contractor because of cost of lumber.

We are so glad to be out of FL, heat, traffic, weather, etc. I know finding a job up here is so hard. I have a job in radio but I still look at the paper regularly to see the job market. Lots of labor jobs, little computer related jobs.

Love our mountains. This is my driveway last fall. I took the picture from our attic.

Love the area. Grew up in Boone, went to App myself (left in 93). You an alum too (saw your avatar)?

I would have stayed if I could have found a job, but had to move south in search of a paycheck.

Yeah, was there from '96-'01, had to leave to find a job as well, else I would still be there. Have season tickets for football though, so I'm up there quite often. Will be heading to the LSU game next month as well.

No luck for me there, interviewed 3 times for a position last summer. I was living just North of Statesville up until 3 months ago (also grew up there).

Funny how there is such a variance in mileage.

EV's worst is my average!
