2007 S AWD ready for the 30,000 mile inspection. Dealer figures about $850.00 and I'm wondering if that is the normal costs involved. Seems really high to me, but if it needs to be done I will spend the money.

Why don't you let us know exactly what your dealer includes in their $850 "30,000 mile" inspection and we may be better informed to tell you if it is reasonable costs or not.

They are wanting to drain and flush the transmission, replace the radiator cap, replace the fan belts or belt?, flush the engine oil not just a regular oil change, and replace the filter, replace the inside cabin Hepa filter, replace the engine air filter, do a injection cleaning, rotate tires and balance and replace the wiper blades. The question becomes is the trans oil change really needed at 30,000 miles. I read the factory installed fluid is good for 100,000 miles. Today i called 4 other dealers, got 4 different figures. One dealer said not to change the fluid, a $200 repair, as it is not needed??? He suggested only changing trans oil at 60,000 miles if I wanted to. They do not remove the trans pan and replace the filter, something he said the factory does not recommend. I'm confused?????

Correct,Most manufacturers no longer require a transmission pan removal and/or filter replacement on transmissions. Flushing and/or drain and refill is the norm. Many of the manufacturer specific trans flush machines actually measure the pressure differential while flushing to identify any "flow resistance" through the trans screen/filter. If and only if it exceeds a parameter is the filter considered for change and/or inspection.

1. Flush the engine oil.... That's like telling me I need to rotate the "air" in my tires. Not required one bit if you change your oil like the manual states

2. Change the radiator cap.... Is it leaking or is the car overheating and excessively filling the overflow container with coolant... I think not.

3 Engine and cabin air filters... Do yourself and save $100 in labor..

4. Injector cleaning... Not required... Fill up with Chevron Tech fuel every other tank full...

5. Change the belt(s).. Maybe if required via visual inspection. Serpentine belts are typically good for 60K miles.

6. Rotate and balance tires... I hope you have been performing this before 30K...... If not, definitely if the tires are still worth it.

7. Wiper-blades - Do they need it and if so do it yourself and save $$ on both the blades and labor.

8. Transmission flush/drain and fill. I would change at 30K regardless of what the manual or anyone else tells you. I'm a prior Nissan Tech and still change every 25-30K on all of my vehicles.

Bottom line,Your MO manual does not have all of the above identified for the 30K mile marker. These type of "Service Schedules" are typically handed out to facilitate dealership Service Dept profit. PERFORMING only what your manual recommends at the 30K mark will preserve your warranty and wallet! With exception to the trans service etc...

I wont comment on the tires or oil changes as those should have had an interval of their own which may not be effected by the 30K mileage. If not been changed before I would do the below:

- Air and cabin filter and wipers (but would perform myself).- Trans flush or drain and fill.- Rear differential oil change (You have AWD).- Definitely check the belts but would not auto change etc..- Change fuel filter.- Definitely check all 4 rotors/brake pads etc..-- Anything else "mandated/required" in accordance with your 2007 owners manual.

$850..... Not from me. However I do understand that the CVT fluid is pricey thus the $200+ trans flush/fill cost will reflect that etc.. My other two vehicles GM/Acura both run $125 for a trans service as an example. Our 09 MO only has 4500 miles thus I have done nothing other than inspect and change the oil once.

Hope I helped you a little.

Good luck!

KJSmitty, thank you very much. The items listed are in the manual listed as premium maintenance: but I have to agree with you. I think I will pick and choose along with doing things myself. I thought some of this stuff was a huge overkill. The car has been awesome and doesn't have as much as 1 squeak or rattle. Thanks again

First off, welcome to NICOclub! It is truly a pleasure having you here in the Murano Forum!

I agree with KJSmitty, $850 is clearly too much. Have your service performed based on what your manual states. Also, do as much of the work yourself as possible, you will save a lot of money. Keep in mind pretty much all automobile dealers are hurting for $$$ right now, so they are looking for other means of generating extra revenue. Good luck!!! How are you enjoying your Murano?

Hi Timmbo; We went in to look at the Murano thinking we were just going to test drive one. This was last February here in Phoenix. We drove the new one and really liked it but it was about $11,000 too far out of our cash spending budget. The salesman didn't want to let a sale walk, so he showed us a certified 2007 with 21, 000 miles that didn't have so much as a chip or scratch anywhere, even inside. It is a S AWD for $20,500 plus tax only. Good enough for us and we thought we got a good deal and a GREAT vehicle. The plus side was the Nissan certified vehicle 100,000 mile warranty without any cost to us.

Hello again Weighit,Sounds like you found a nice one at a good price - especially with the 100K warranty.

On that note, please look over your extended warranty paperwork very carefully. Make sure it doesn't levy any strange/additional dealer mandated service that otherwise could be done elsewhere or at a different interval etc.. It shouldn't but.... (most will just inform you to follow the manufacturers service intervals and keep your maintenance receipts) :-)

I have never purchased an extended warranty yet know they can have some interesting fine print. I would hate to have suggested something that could negatively impact your warranty needs later on down the road.

Happy Holidays!

I recently purchased an '04 Murano and it is approaching 30k. This thread of info has been very helpful. Many thanks!

Even at 60K miles, this would be a total scam.

Over the years, and with the help of the weasels at a Subaru dealership I learned to tell the service manager "by the book--only." I am also sure to state "the windshield washers do not need fluid, I do not want any fuel or oil additives, and once again--by the book---no dealer add-ons." In these economic times, we need for the good guys to win! That's the way it looks from here.
