1. does any one know if eathonol adversley affects our little engines?cuz the gas station i get my gas from has like 10% eathonol in the gas, i was just wondering2. anyone using a knock reader? i have one on the SAFC but it reads from 50 to 150 i this thing even reliable, i did a search and hit on a topick that says that our knock sensors are hard to tune and that the AEM EMS wont read em right, confused on that point too.......3. (i know title says only two) under boost i hear intense whooshing, and i have a DSM BOV, but i still read 5 lbs at full boost all the way to redline, is my BOV just lettin stuff by or did i kill sumptin? ive no IC just straight pipe from turbo to Trottle, (in the works............ )thats all, and if i didnt search good then feel free to flame

Sorry, I don't know much about fuel. I think ethanol is corrosive though. I know when people run straight alcohol they have to modify the fuel system components to run it.

I have always been inherently distrustful of knock meters. I find it very hard to beleive they could discern knock at high rpms from valvetrain noise. I would say check your plugs to back up a knocking indication. Always assume the knock meter is right and back off just to be safe but don't make changes until you verify it actually is though a plug check.

Intense whoosing is likely the roar of air being sucked into the turbo, you have an aftermarket free-flow filter don't you? You can hear the turbo easily with those. You could block off the BOV and see if the sound goes away to check if it is failing.

No intercooler? bad juju, it makes me think #2 might be true. My L20ET came with no intercooler but it was running like 7.8: compression; the CA18 is 8.5. You need an intercooler. Granted, the stock one is a joke but no intercooler isn't funny.

1- its just for ppl trying to save the planet with cleaner gasses2- 4 bangers tend to vibrate ALOT so a knock sensor will usually always show knock and im not sure about the safc knock reader...ive never really read into it3-NO NO NO INTERCOOLER?!?! this is a no no. this could easily destroy an engine like tms said the ca is 8.5:1 compression as opposed to those with low compression and no intercooler. u MUST get an intercooler on that thing and for the whooshing, doesnt ur car discription say u have a crushed dsm bov? lol maybe that could cause a noise prob under boost...or the fact that u have NO INTERCOOLER lol.moral of the story....get an intercooler

In defense of #3.... S12's have no intercooler stock. and they boost happily enuf?

#2 I have an safc2, mine starts around 30-40 cold, then goes to 50-80 warm. I've seen up too 200 when i'm flooring it, but the motor doesnt make any noises and runs strong.

For #1 http://www.eere.energy.gov/cle...5.pdf

For#2 In higher rpms ecu's usually ignore the knock sensor.

All gas has had 10% ethanol for a while.

Stock ECU does NOT ignore knock at higher RPM. They may turn the sensetivity down, but that is it.
