Each coil has a plug with 3 wires. You are correct that the white wire is power supply and it is daisy-chained to each coil pack. The black wire on each is a common ground (daisy-chained) that ends up at the loop connector bolted down to the head behind cylinder #6. Then, each individual coil has its own signal wire from the coil to the ignitor. The signal wire continues from the ignitor to the ECU where the signal to fire originates. Series 2 engines integrate the ignitor into each coil so there is no ignitor on the valve cover any more. So the signal wires go directly from the ECU to the coil packs.
The ECU grounds each signal wire in sequence (derived from CAS position) and this, in turn, triggers the coil to release its charge to the spark plug.
