I recently purchased a 93 240sx hatch. The previous owner put on Megan's 3 inch catback with stock headers and mostly stock motor. 3 inches is way to much for this isn't it? I imagine it greatly reduces scavenging. It is also way way too loud. I thought about just putting a different muffler on, but I'm leaning towards just getting a different catback. What do you guys think? What catback have y'all found to be quiet? Thanks.

depends on your luck... at least one member on one of the 240 forums did dyno testing a few years back & found that even w/ 3" exhaust, the stock KA gained hp & torque vs stock across the entire power band. Take it as you will.

As for quite exhaust, there isn't too much you can do w/ the stock ka other than get a 2.5" exhaust or the RSR exhaust (still loud on acceleration, but cruising is quieter than other 3" exhausts).

If you really want quiet, get a stock exhaust.

Thanks!

I would have gone stock already, except the local junk yard cuts the exhaust at the cats. If they just bothered to unscrew two bolts, they could have had a sale. I'll consider that RSR. It really is the cruising that gets to me. That constant droning drives me crazy.

If you want to stay with a 3" exhaust find one that uses a resonator as well as a muffler. I've got the greddy power extreme 2 on my sr and it's pretty quiet until i really open the throttle.

Yes, getting an exhaust w/ a resonator or adding a resonator to his current exhaust will help. However, keep in mind you sr is turbo & cricha5's car is n/a ka. There is a MAJOR difference in sound between n/a ka & sr using the exact same exhaust.

If you want really quete exhaust and want to increase hp and torque at the same time I would recommend apexi n1; both single or dual canister types are about the same as long as you get 2.5 in piping. Even if you get 3" it is still much queter than most 3" exhausts out there. My friend has 3" N1 on his KA and it is about as loud as my 5Zigen cannonbal on my SR

do you and your buddy have a turbo on your car? if so then your exhaust notes will be quieter. ever hear either of those exhausts on a N/A car? they are loud.

btw N1 dual only comes in split 2.5" pipes. it's loud on a N/A car and so isn't the N1 (single)

this is a random N1 dual i found on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC0GgvB4yVo

Yes I heard those on NA cars because my friend's KA is pretty much stock save for intake and S13 cams and like I said it is just as loud as my 5zigen on my SR.

n/a KA's with headers and 3" exhaust is WAY TOO LOUD FOR ME. my friend has that **** on his S14 and its annoying as hell, atleast with a turboed car it gets muffled a bit by the turbo lol

any aftermarket muffler will make it louder than stock.. Some designs like a coffee can muffler will be really loud because, well it's not really a muffler.

If I were you I would cut the megan muffler off, use the 3in piping, and go the exhaust shop and have them weld on a dual outlet "stock" muffler. keep the drone down and look stock.

i agree. i have 3in ebay catback, meghan resonater, and cx racing header and it is sooo annoying for cruising any long distance.

i wish i would have gotten a nice 2.5 in. but now i will be going turbo as soon as the weather breaks. so it should be a litlle quieter man i cant wait for that turbo
