I have a straight out 3 inches exhaust , no cat , no resonator and a nur spec mufflar , at the begging I kinda like it but after a while , It's just too lound for daily driver, any idea how to keep it as quiet as possible (keep it low) . I just want something quiet AND power...

http://www.acoustics.org/press/137th/boonen.html ?? I read about it...would that work ?

any other idea? I like to keep it good flow ( 3 inches )but as quiet as possible ...

why not put a resonater on it? The nur spec is already loud from the factory and I think the cat back system has a resonater. I would just weld one onto the exhaust you have now.

either that or you could just bolton a resonated race pipe. If you really want it quiet you will have to weld a muffler in line.

Check out this: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/nc...r=361 just weld it inline as a resonator, it wont be a HUGE difference, but should help out some. Also, its cheap :)

my silencer quiets mine, but it makes it sound like a lawn mower. its in for winter since I've been driving all over the place, but I sure don't like the sound under WOT.

That, and it cuts your 3" piping down to 1.5", or at least my silencer does.

yeah you guys have a point had mine on once doesn't sound bad just not loud enough Apexi GT Spec by the way and to the original poster of the thread not sure it it would help much but you have a test pipe instead of the cat what if you just put a high flow or even the stock one back in i'm sure it'd knock some of the noise down without too much perfomance loss

apexi GT spec is one of the loudest exhaust you can buy...a simple resonated race pipe like project silvia's would deepend the sound and lower the output, but if you really want it cut down you are gonna have to go more hardcore.

My Apexi Gt Spec isn't that loud don't get me wrong i love the low hum it puts off i haven't really heard many 240s with aftermarket exhuast so don't know how mine really compares but i do still have the stock cat and still a n/a engine i did notice a small power drop in the low end but after 3500 she still wants to get up and go, and that 3 3/4" stainless pipe looks pretty ballsy lol can't wait for a turbo

I'd say if noise is a concern, get an exhaust system that is designed to be quieter. I prefer this over using a silencer. It's pointless to me to get an exhaust that flows really well only to plug it up again.

True enough...I'm a big fan of loud myself. I might toss in the silencer for long trips with the wife.

a high-flow cat and a resonator would quiet it down; while not dramatically restict flow.

mecp if you noticed a drop in low end power thats just your imagination playing tricks on you... I've seen the dyno charts, apexi GT spec on NA engine, no low end loss.

i thought i had read it somewhere were someone said that it would cause loss in the low end. But hey if it doesn't than thats even better thanks for clearing me up on that now i just got to figure out my fuel problem

Use a 22" glass-packed, 3" IN, 3" OUT, straight-through resonator in line with the piping (between the cat and muffler), and you'll be happy. It'll produce a nice, quiet, and deep tone (first hand experience), and the resonator itself is very cheap at around $30

a nice cat-back system that wont be too loud is the RS*R ExMag. 3" piping and its designed to flow well while keeping a quieter tone and stock looking muffler/tip

One thing that should be mentioned, if you get a glasspack, do NOT get one with a louvered core...they dont flow for ****. Thats why I linked you to the dynomax, it is perforated instead and is 100% straight through, free flowing.
