Ok, everyone is saying that you need a 3" exhaust and an intake for the must have upgrades. I am putting a straght through 2.5" exhaust from the headers back on my SOHC in a few days. Is that half inch critical? On the intake side of the issue, I read once that new intakes on KA24E or DE can almost lower the horsepower because of all the heat. What intake would anyone recommend? I am not putting on headers on the KA24E because for one, it is a KA24E with 87000 miles on it and for two, I plan to swap the KA for the SR because I have the SOHC version. I was also thinking on some JWT cams because the SOHC high end past about 5200RPM isn't worth the gas it burns.

wow your misinformed. i have stock cam in my sohc. and almost all bolt ons too. with a 3in exhaust. i pull till 6500. my hp peaks at 6400. torque at 5600. i shift at 7k. once you get a few mods done to the sohc it really comes to life. i have a custom intake, went where the battery did. i relocated it to the trunk. also try a asp underdrive. there nice and cheap too. obx header is a great investment. and i would reccomened it too. and get a 3in test pipe with the exhaust too. the sohc really is a great engine. i cant wait till i swap to a set of mech lifters and a hybridka cam. then after that its itb time.

oh and mine was a junkyard swap at 70k ive put about 11k on it. it runs like a champ. do a compression check on your motor. if its anywhere near 170 on each then throw some goodies on it. and have fun.

Uhm. He's misinformed? The KA24E has its power peak at 5500 and torque peak at 4000. If you shift at 7k, you're only slowing yourself down due to how badly the power drops off at the high end in stock form.

good to see someone's doing an all motor KA24E, but Insanity is right. You can pretty much trust that Nissan figured out the exact RPMs when the HP and Torque were highest. If you've ever seen a graph of the power an engine puts out, especially a 4 cyl, the power curve will apex and then drop off quite a bit.

Especially a SOHC.
