Which would you go for?

SSAC official:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...WA:IT

SSAC copy:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...WA:IT

Different one (look at the flange)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...WA:IT

All claim to be SUS321 (which is good) but only SSAC offers a 1 year warranty. So, SSAC or what?

The second and third ones look like the old style SSAC manifold. Where the #1 runner comes in perpendicular to the collector. Not very good for flow.

The first says "SUS304 STAINLESS STEEL", don´t know the difference between 304 and 321 but maybe there is a steel expert here?

I mounted a SSAC manifold on a Honda a while ago but the flanges were regular steel, not SS as they said. Same with these?

321 is less prone to cracking from heat cycling, although stainless in general is not good for heat cycling no matter what grade it is.

Damn, so should I sacrifice the warranty and design of the SSAC for one of the others for greater heat strength?

Basically the higher the number, the higher the hardness (as I understand it). Hardness resists cracking.

I had thought about producing a Inconel version of the SSAC Bottom mount. Stainless flanges and Inconel tubbing. How ever the cost is over 4.5 times that of the SSAC there for most have opted to just buy the SSAC. If anyone is intrested I would still be willing to produce these in limited qty For people intrested, email me for pricing and other details. Inconel is much more costly then the Stainless but has much better heat cycle properties. Typicaly F1 manifolds are made from Inconel. Down pipes can also be fabricated. If you had an inconel manifold the worries of cracking and break down would be all but gone.

so around $500 for a quality tubular manifold?

would you do a topmount t3 as well?

very interested for the ca20 project this summer

(i dont know a whole lot about metal properties, Inconel == strong form of steel, or different alloy/element etc? )

the third one looks to have better reinforcing on the flanges, and better looking welds. I would get that one based on pictures alone, but what you get might be different.

CJ..

Yea I could do a top mount. Guess I could buy a SSAC and make a jig from it and resell the SSAC. Either that or with some excelent measurements make you exactly what you want. Shot me an email and we will chat of board.

ok is it just me, or does the 3rd one have the mounting holes in the wrong place, check the first 2, look where the 2 holes close together on the bottom between cyl 3 and 4 near the t25 flange. the 3rd one has them on the top not bottom. and i think all 3 designs are the exact same, i dont see what you mean between the first one and the 2nd and 3rd. they all have the same runner design. as far as the SS they use, 321 is better than 304 and about 3 times the price, inconel is best, but again 5 times the price of 321. ive seen ssac advertise they have 321 manifolds in the title, but it always says 304 in the description, so im skeptical on which material they use, as they wont reply to my emails. when i finally purchase a manifold, im prolly just gonna get the cheapest one and just make a jig out of it and make my own lol. atleast i know my welding is good.

Of those 3...I would choose the ssauto. Their bottom mount manifolds lately have been fairly consistent as far as fitment goes, and I know there's a few members on here who haven't had any problems with them so far. Remember I'm talking about their stock mounting manifolds. They're top mounts are still junk.

And to answer someones previous question about the difference between 304 and 321 ss. Assuming that the 304 is a low grade carbon steel(meaning it contains a low amt of carbon, helping to resist corrosion), 304 and 321 are pretty similar in nature. They're both common 18/8 forms of ss, but the 321 uses titanium as a stabilizer. They do this to help prevent carbide precipitation. Carbide precipitation is what lowers the corrosion resistance of steel. The 321 also has a higher temp fatigue resistance than the 304, but 304 is cheaper in price, which is why a lot of companies choose it.

That was probably more information than most of you care to hear.

id stick with the stocker if your at all worried about it lasting,or your going to be using a GT28RS or bigger, i doubt you will see any signifigant gains.

i gota bunch of 2.5" and 3" inconell piping in the shop, noone wants to use it cause of the price.

Guys, the small steel pieces between pipe and flange on these manifolds, they are there to make it stronger right?Never had these on any of my previous manifolds and never any cracks, is these pieces there because the steel quality is bad?

The pipes is pretty thick, I can´t see why they need to be there? Damn ugly...

I had a full inconell manifold on my Audi S2 and it was amazing... Thin pipe walls and very light weight, used in all the fast WRC cars and other turbo monsters.

500 USD for a inconell manifold is really cheap, how much extra for inconell flanges? Please tell me if there will be a GB, want a top mount T3.

/Mike

Edit: NismoBGT: Do you use a special inconell "wire" to TIG weld it?

Mike you have to use Inconel filler rod or the weld will have impurities in them. I will have to check on the availablity of inconel flat bar. The way I usualy cut flanges is from 4" or 5" flat bar. That reduces the cost from buying flat sheet. I tend to use 5/8" or 3/4" for the flanges. I hate warped head flanges. If I had to guess the Inconel flat bar will run about $250 to $300 more. I produce these in my shop. I have done several for the MG sceen but have just recently broke into the Nismo sceen. So a group buy is probably not going to happen. I may just offer up what I would call a better quality manifold for those who want it and are willing to pay the price differance. Some good measurements would be crucial to starting this up. I DO NOT want to have the same fitment issues the SSAC has. Email me if you are serious. If I set up and produce 2 or 3 at the sametime you will be happier with the end result. I will aslo jig it up and may setup for a stainless and reduce the cost on that.

Ok sorry guys but after doing some updating on supplies Inconel has gone balistic in the price range. Something about the price of nickle.. Anways sorry for getting everyone wound up on this. I am still able to produce a Stainless manifold that will have slip joints in it from 321 stainless. They will withstand 1400 deg temps which for most of us is more than fine. Inconel will take 1800 to 2000 deg all day long but for the price diff its almost impossible to justify the inconel.

the third manifold has a bracket to brace between the bottom of the head flange the and the turbo flange. doesn't seem like too bad of an idea to me. that's what the extra holes are for if anyone is wondering :-)

acually the third manifold has extra holes, and a braket that comes w/ it, I wonder if it's some type of support bracket, which means it deffenitly beats out the other 2.

holy crap, you guys dont read ****, zero260, you just posted the same damn comment iliketocrash posted 2 posts before you, jesus christ, you guys seriously need to start reading the entire thread before you post stuff that has been said. im sorry if you guys think im over reacting, but this is one of the reasons i hate coming here, too many ppl post when they dont READ THE WHOLE THREAD. if you guys even read my post earlier, that picture isnt even of a CA18DET manifold, that would never fit on your motor, LOOK at where the holes are to mount it to your engine, i dont know about you, but my manifold and the 2 that are pictured in the first 2 auctions have holes on the bottom in between the 3 and 4 runners. so that bracket would not work on a CA, that is an SR20DET manifold. that sellers other auctions also have pictures that dont match the description, i doubt he has even seen a CA.

HERES A LITTLE PICTURE FOR YOU GUYS.. THIS IS FOR A CA18DETTHIS IS NOT FOR A CA!!!!

there is no hope for some of you, but i hope that some of you have learned something.

Before you lock it, +1 for an option to the SSAC manifold. If there is good welders on Nico, please check if you can make a decent manifold for "ok" bucks.

Thanks.

Anyone think that the seller might have flipped the pic or used another photo just to list it?

I'm not locking it. Knightrider is right. The pic they have up is for an SR20DET. The flange is wrong. If you flip the manifold over, and mount the turbo, it'll hit the hood.

some of you would have not made it past childhood.

and rico, how exactly would you flip that picture to make it from a CA to look exactly like an SR manifold, please, im so very interested in the paint program you have. and i guess rico is just wayy to thickheaded, cuz he obviously doesnt read (yes i already ****ing said this). if you look at the other auctions, from that same seller, you can see that most of his pictures are wrong. jesus christ, im trying to help but i just want to smash my hands with a hammer so i cant come here and look at all this ignorance.
