I've tried multiple different transmission fluids in my Rb25 box, i beat this car pretty good and have always wanted the best performing fluid i could get in it. Before i rebuilt this transmission i used just run of the mill gear oil from local parts store and then tried redline the gear oil worked but it was very notchy and would grind on occasion. i never used normal gear oil again.

I switched to Redline lightweight shockproof and never looked back, until i decieded to rebuild this box due to it starting to grind and it was very noisy.

After trans rebuild i continued to use Redline until i recently switch fluids again to try Torco RTF this stuff is expensive 20 bucks a quart..

My main gripe with the redline is its cold performance and if the trans isn't fully warmed it didnt shift as smooth as i felt it should.

Mind you i shift this trans upwards of 8500RPM

The Torco RTF is hard to get not alot of places have it, but a local race team uses it in there outlaw civic that runs low 8's and love it so i gave it a try..

The trans shifts much better cold, its does seems a bit more noisy ( however that could be from the poly subframe bushing i installed as i changed fluid and bushings the same day)
This transmission shifts like butter all over the rpm range now, it has never shifted so good at high RPM i honestly cannot believe the improvement, i dont think i will find anything better than this fluid, i'm content with it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a better fluid.

Im updating this thread because i recently had another trans issue come about..

My transmission spit out another "insert spring" and started grinding 4th.. Im going to try another fluid, i think the really lightweight Torco fluid aided the spring to pop out of the slider/Hub.

I have installed another transmission i purchased off ebay.. its an R34 Neo trans with the newer better syncho assemblies..

Im temped to mix shockproof with Torco or shockproof with Amsoil MTG or Redline MT90

Suggestions? experiences?

Of the 5 or 6 trans fluid I have tried through the course of the years, I have had the most satisfaction with the Amsoil stuff

I Used a kit off ebay it came with all the bearings and synchro rings.. it was for a z32 transmission.. however I robbed another transmission I had for some insert springs.. they broke again.. now I realized you can buy them new.. good news is you can install them without pulling the gearset down. This is now a backup transmission as I have a Neo trans now.

I put in 3/4 quart of heavyweight shockproof.. and filled it with amsoil transmission fluid.

This is the best shifting transmission yet.. not sure if its the fluid or the better NEO synchros..

I had also upgraded the clutch fork to the z33 unit.. another worthy upgrade..

If you could I don't need to rebuild my R33 box yet (that I know of). I hate buying stuff on ebay because it's a crap shoot when you get it. if the trans needs a rebuild then I'll drop it and get it fixed.
