the reason they're angled is to have less bends in the piping to improve exhaust flow. usually right before the last resonator (the big canister you see) they make a horizontal pipe to make the muffler sit horizontal. Now, apex'i i believe started to not make the horizontal pipe, and instead, made it angled to improve exhaust flow, also avoiding another bend in the exhaust pipe.
I laugh every time I see one of those monstrosities grind on a speedbump or a driveway.
"Mandrel-bent" does not have anything to do with how the muffler sits. Mandrel-bent means the piping for the ENTIRE system is bent in such a way that the entire inside of the piping retains a constant diameter (for better flow).
The "angled" muffler has nothing to do with improving flow, regardless of what they'd like you to think. It's purely an appearance thing, as is that enormous canister. It is a good system, just more style than substance.
