Bet yours was much cheaper, although I was happy to pay the price. 18/lb down here and worth every cent.

I saw this thread and thought it was about my daughter. That's what she weighed when she was born (plus half a beer).

When I was in the USAF, we used to stop in Maine on the way back from deployments to refuel etc. There was a guy selling lobsters by the box, packed in ice for $50. I think we got 12 of them dudes in a box. No 4 lbers, but no dainty little Liberal lobsters either.

Lol at the rest of you guys. I left the title vague on purpose, totally worth the replies.

Bex, 3.8 lbs at birth aye? Was that wicked early or what? That's scary small.

How was the lobster? Was it tough and chewy at all? I used to find it could be easy to overcook some areas of larger lobster while others might still be undercooked (the mid section).

Actually it was as good as I said. Absolutly amazing. I had a pic of it but I deleted it. As long as you keep basting and not overcook it, it will be 10x better than anything boiled.

I think for a mid-large sized one its 3 mins on the underside, then another 7 on the shell. I can get the cooking instructions I followed if you really want. But the butter, thin sliced of garlic, and touch of old bay and/or cayenne as a baster is trademarked by me :)

She was 3 weeks early (their best guess). She didn't have to lay in an incubator or anything, her lungs were fully developed. She was just small. (I was sick).

Yeah, I'm talking about the whole thing. Doing just the tails is easy (more or less uniform thickness).

Mine was boiled and the cook did a pretty good job. I've eaten a lot of lobster and it was right on par with the best of them. I have had some very chewy ones, I send them back. I refuse to pay out the a** for something that is messed up. For me, I've had more small lobsters come out badly then I have larger ones. I try not to get lobster at places that specialize in fried seafood. Chances are it'll suck.

While we are on the subject of lobsters. Check these out that I had on Cape Cod this year. I believe they were about the same weight as yours.

When I was at Cape Cod a couple years ago the lobster was expensive as hell. Granted, I didn't try and get one at the dock......

Same when I was in Maine four years ago.....It was cheaper here than buying at the stores up there.

I can't remember exactly how much it was. I think it was in the $7.00 lb range which isn't too bad IMO. I've grown up in the northeast so I have nothing to compare it to.

The little shacks on the side of the road with lobster rolls were 20 bux each. I expected Maine and Cape Cod to be cheaper but that seemed not the case. I doubt I ate any lobster there but one lobster roll.
