Decided I'd go for it. I figured, s***, I'm only gonna buy four cans of the stuff (around $6 a can) and even if I don't like the end result, it comes right off with no bad effects to the wheels themselves.

After finishing, though.. DAMN. There's no way in hell I'm taking this s*** off :chuckle:

I'll get closeups after I recover :lolling: It was 105+ out today :tisk:

This are the steps I did...

1) jack car up, put on jackstands, remove 2 wheels at a time
2) wash wheels front and back (note: i didn't really wash the back of the wheels TOO good, but the front I did wash really well as I didn't want any dirt under the paint)
3) place index cards between wheel/tire to prevent overspray + remove center cap
4) start spraying! I did a total of three coats on each wheel

Thats it! It was pretty easy, although I was really nervous beforehand - even though I knew the plastidip comes right off if need be.

lol no kidding man, it has been 102+ for about the last 50 days here. I'm actually waiting until dark to paint some stock 2.5 wheels black tonight lol. I wan't to use them in the winter for my car so the nismos don't get chipped from road salt and sand.

How is the finish? I used plasti-dip quite a bit to waterproof my r/c electronics, but the finish is sort of dull and not real smooth. I haven't painted a totally smooth surface like a wheel before tho.

I'll get you guys some close ups tomorrow when the sun's out again. I think there's only a single spot on two different wheels where I found I painted a little too much and it dripped a little, but it's definitely not noticeable unless you're actually looking for it.

All in all, I'm really happy I decided to do this. I'm actually doing a little more research and testing myself to see if it's possible to spray on the Plastidip, then spray actual paint OVER the Plastidip and see if the paint will come off as easy as the Plastidip by itself does. If so, I'll have some nice gold wheels in the future :)

I did that to my friends Scion Tc, we did all the steps u said, then we painted a black base coat, then got this cool paint that changes color in the light, from blue to purple. I would never do that to my rims, but it was fun to try out, and boy they turned out nice...

As you can see, there's a few blemishes, and the wheels actually are a little dirty now so they're not as nice as they were right after paint. I'm sure I'll be spraying another coat by the end of the month, just to buff up the finish.

The center cap just pops out. When you have the wheel off the car and you're cleaning it before painting, you can just press on it from the bottom and it pops right out. Putting it back in is just as easy.

Do it man! You won't be disappointed. Even if you are, the most you'll be out is ~$20 and a few hours of your time. That's the plus about Plastidip! :rotfl
