Anyone know anything about the benefits/drawbacks of these things? Please be specific.

Your accessories are driven at a slower speed so that less engine power is used for them. I've had one for 4 years.

Like I said, I've had one for four years. Because less power goes to the alternator, the only issues I've had were occasional battery drain that was significant enough to require a jump on a few occasions, but I was also running an overall 2500W system. I don't know of anyone else who has had problems beyond this or slightly reduced AC cooling.
