Ok so a Guy I know is selling me an engine and transmission from a 2005 altima se-R. Very cheap too. Is it a good idea to try a swap into my coupe? Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. Btw 20k miles on It.

lol honestly why did you buy the 2.5 knowing you want a faster and more powerful engine with the money you spend on the engine and man hour spend you could have gotten the 3.5 ..

I never said I didn't want a 3.5. I couldn't afford it. Big difference. They're asking for a grand. So its pretty cheap.

grand for the engine. then you gotta figure in the cost for a new transmission as well as whatever other misc parts you need. not worth the time or money imo.

A grand for both engine and transmission.
The whole idea was to get em. Since its very cheap. And do the project in the future. But I'm having second thoughts now.

Seriously.. i'm just being honest with you. okay so 1000 for the engine.. new parts + man hours. you looking at another 1500-2000$ .. 2500-3500$ for a engine that makes 250 hp. with the time and money you going to spend, you can easily sell a 2.5 coupe and put on extra 3-4 grand for a 3.5 coupe. which is 270hp , 20 more than all the trouble you might run into and time you gotta spend. Just my 2 cent man. in the end of the day if you still decide you want to go through with this process.. i'm sure just about anyone on this forum would like to see the result and the process in the making.

Yea That's true. I'll probably just wait and get 2014 mustang when its fully redesigned. Should be about done paying for my car by then anyway. I won't trade it in though.

Well, this is all assuming the engine and transmission would even fit. There would be an insane amount of fab work to be done assuming it can be done. So yeah, not cheap... Or even possible for that matter.

The '05 '06 3.5 engine is the same damn VQ35 with older design/parts. The engine itself would fit, it's not some weird alien car. I'm no engine guru but from what I understand there would be issues with mounting the engine, the transmission and of course ECU and all that wiring fun. That would be the PITA part.

I would instead think the actual 3.5 engine from another coupe would be a better option as you'd not have to worry about fitment as much as wiring/ECU, plus you get full 270 HP as opposed to 260.

OP, is your A/C being leased or did you buy it?

Bought. ^
everyone else thanks for the opinions, as of now that idea is out of my head. I just felt 800 bucks for the engine w/ transmission already attached was a steal. Didn't really think of the other factors involved. Oh well!
