Ok, Today I performed my first self done oil change on my A/C and I'm damn proud of myself that I finally did so. Now the only thing is this....when I took my car in for an oil change previously, I was told by one place that the car took just over 3 qts of oil....another place said 4 qts but the manual and local auto supply store (Murray's Discount Auto Store) say 4 7/8 Qts What is the correct amount of oil that the car requires???

***NOTE***

I put in just under 5 quarts, checked the dip stick but the oil is running all up and down the dipstick, this is why the confusion.

Ok, I just wanna make sure that I'm not overfilling the Oil. Also, I forgot to mention, I got a fram tough guard oil filter.....it fit fine but the oil filter was about 1" shorter than the one on there already. Will this have any type of negitive effect?

I believe its 4 and 7/8QT in a cool engine according to the manual. I put in 5 as well and no problems with my 3.5

Mobil 1 Synthetic Extended Life FTW!

Your FRAM tough guard will be just fine, and 5Qt will fill it almost to the High Line, I use Synth (which ever is on sale) Castrol or Mobil 1 seems to work well and I change it every 5000 and just by looks the oil seems very clean so far when changing. I have not shipped away a sample for analysis so I can not comment on the true hold up of the synths but by opacity the stuff looks like I could get 10K per change but 5K is fine...

And seriously it doesn't matter what brand you use (unless el cheapo) Mobil, castrol Royal Purple (waste of money), Penzoil, Quaker State its all good one is NOT better than the other

Oh Hecky No I'm Not.....It was at the Valvoline Instant Oil Change across the street from my families gas station that I manage. I knew it didn't sound right when he said that. I put just under 5 qts and I will check the level of the oil in a month or so to make sure everything is good.
