3.5 Idle and Start

I just took a trip to Georga and while I was up there it started kinda strange,Once it died but it may have been me not holding it over long enough so Im not to worried. When it Idles in gear it runs about 5 to 700 rpm and out about 900 or 1000. Is that about normal. As far as the starting problem I wonder if it will go away because most of the time its normal and its just been about 2 days. BTW I have been keeping it topped off but now its getting down to about quarter a tank. I wonder if it could be bad fuel. Thanks
