I'm on the eve of begining a full on restoration/ customization of a 1970 MG Midget, and in place of the original guages I'm going to us an all digital gauge, which due to its size will be offset toward the center of the dash. due to this set up there will basically be a blank area where there once were guages. I am looking for 3- 4 inch stand alone monitors to put in its place. one for navigation, the other for rearview/ entertainment. however my search has not turned up anything feasible under 6.5 inches. while it may work to use a screen that large. in a few days I will put a picture on here to show you what my physical limitations are. I'm not looking for a DVD system yet, but I'd like to see what my options are for this endeavor. truth be told, I'm a couple years out from installing an interior to this car, being that the kind of time I have it will be a year before it is completely dismantled. anything you got would be most helpful.

The major reason, that you probably didn't find a screen sized 3.5-4" is because of the difficulty you would have seeing anything on it. Remember those Casio, and Sony handheld pocket TV's from the 80's? Yes you could sort of see and hear you program, but only if you held it really close to your face. Even in a small car it would be beneficial to have a larger screen to see the NAV.

Most of primary Navigation Systems, by Alpine, Kenwood, & Pioneer use proprietary touch screen also, so finding one that small may have a compatibility problem. The product you hear advertised on TV by Tom Tom is available at Best Buy and it is about the right size you could at least check it out first in the store. Also Alpine has anew product soon to be released, that is also portable with navigation called the blackbird it has a 3.6” LCD screen but the device is slightly larger.

I know what you mean about small screens and visibility. but an exception to the rule would be the 3.5 inch screen on the JVC EXAD head unit. that has a really good picture. I could put a regular double DIN on the right side of the dash because that is also a big empty void as well, once I get rid of the rediculous padded vinyl, but once I remove the guages, there will basically be nothing there. the height of a 6.5" or larger just won't fit.
