I just purchased my 1990 zxtt. Guy said it had a stage two what ever clutch in it. If I depress the pedal it will travel 3/4 of the way down with out actuating the clutch. The last 1/4 of pedal travel will disengage and rengage the clutch. The car is drive able but the clutch grabs right off the floor. Could the vaccum assist be bad on this car? I hear no hissing from it but 3/4 of the pedal travel is useless. I have bleed both the master and the slave. Has anyone else run into this. Thanks

I had the same issue on my NA slicktop. Both the slave and the master were leaking, so I replaced both and all is good. FYI, even if the master appears dry, I'd replace it anyway, they can be bad internally, causing soft pedal/ hard to bleed. Good luck :)

I immediately suspected the master. But the more I thought about it I'm wondering if the clutch fork is bent. I read that this happens to these cars with super sonic clutches in them. I found a receipt I'm the glove box for a master dated 6/12/13. So I imagine the previous owner tried this. Thanks for your reply.

Its possible that the clutch was not bleed properly, there are 2 bleeding points. 1 is in the engine compartment, on the left fender. The 2nd one is down on the slave cylinder. If someone is not familar with the Z the nipples in the engine compartment is easy to overlook. It took me a while to get all the air out of the system after replacing the master and the slave cylinders. Just remember any air in the line will absorb any force the the fluid is trying to apply to the slave cylinder, which probably why your clutch pedal goes 3/4 down before working.

I bled the master cyclinder on the car as if I was bench bleeding it. The clutch line was replaced with a bent pipe. Looks like who ever installed the master broke the original line. I'm not sure if the hooked it up to the second bleeder you described. Where exactly would that be located? Also I was gonna try and push the fork back towards the slave to see if that ruled out a bent fork. What do you guys think? Thanks for all responses.

OK here's a thought. Lift the car and have an assistant depress the pedal while you observe the fork movement at the slave cyl.
If the fork moves as soon as the pedal, the hydraulics are probably ok. Then you probably do have fork issues. if no movement for a bit of pedal movement, air is probably still present. Good luck!

I have done that before posting on here. I observed the slave doesn't move for 3/4 of the pedal travel. I was wondering if the slave could be over extended because of a bent fork. So as I was pressing the pedal the slave was not moving because it was already so far out of its bore? My clutch line goes directly from the master to the slave. The bleeder on the fender has been bypassed due to someone replacing the line with their ownake shift set up. Thanks

Here is a picture form another forum. I would make sure the clutch is bleed properly before looking at anything else, especially if the master cylinder was replaced.

Bought a new slave today. Ordered the clutch master. Will report back with my findings. Thanks for all of your help. Master will be in Monday. I will most likely install it next Saturday.

Cheers
