I am looking at a 98 QX4 my neighbor will be getting rid of since he overheated it last weekend. It has 230,000 miles so it is due a full overhaul. The truck is a one owner and he has maintained it well with the transmission being rebuilt 50,000 miles ago.

My question is do I put in a used 3.3 with 81,000 miles for $1000 or I have found a wrecked 01 Pathy with ~90k that I can pick up for $950.

I haven't found a lot of good info on the swap from 3.3 to 3.5 but several complaining about the reliablility of the 3.5 vs the 3.3.

Opinions????

Reliability aside, it should be a lot easy to swap apples for apples than apples for oranges.

Agreed. Unless you have a lot of experience swaping engines, I would stick with the 3.3. You never know if the engine mount locations are the same or if everything is going to link up as it should. I would imagine that you might have to switch out the computer for the engine to run properly. And who knows if all the sensors are the same?

I've done several swaps in different vehicles so that doesn't concern me as much. Guess I will have to look @ modifying the 3.3 to get a bit more power. I drove a 99 Q and it is a slug compared to a newer one.

Yeah you might even need the newer speedo. . I dunno where it ends. And by speedo, I don't mean bananahammock.
