2nd Row Seat chaptains to bench...Can it be done?

Hello everyone.

I just purchased a new '09 QX56. Awesome vehicle lots of room to stretch on long trips.

Had some question in regards to the second row seat. We purchased the vehicle with captains chairs so it would be easier to get all the car seats in the vehicle and still have access to the third row. But I am finding out the a bench would have been a better choice due to the current traveling arrangements. I was trying to forsee the future and well you know how that goes. Now I'm stuck.....or am I.

I have been in recent conversation with the dealership with purchasing a bench seat and they are giving all this static about how it will change the structural integrity of the truck and they can't garentee blah blah blah....

Basicall I wanted to just purchase the middle seat, take the arm rests off and call it a day. But they are telling me they can't order just the middle seat and that I would need to you need to replace the whole seat which is like $4000 + dollars.

So I turned to purchase one from the junk yard. I can't seem to get any answers on which model QX will fit my '09 and what modification I will have to do to make this thing work. If anyone has done this or know where I can purchase just the middle seat and make this thing work that would be great.

I see you have same issue I ended up dealing with. I used to own an '04 QX56 with the captain's chairs.....then came along the kids, so when I purchased my '08 Armada, I went with the bench for the second row, it meant an extra seat, and a spot for mom to hop into if the kids were acting up. Here is the deal, I know the dealer is correct in saying that you CANNOT just buy the middle seat, you would have to replace the whole rear bench seat. It would certainly work, but it could get pricey. Although, the '09 is exactly the same as the '08 so that gives you a few more opportunities to find a solid bench. So I think your best bet is the junk yard, should be able to get a much better deal there.

I cannot give you an honest answer on that one, I have never taken one apart, did you check the service manual?

Did anyone ever find a solution to this? I am in the process of buying a 2010 QX56, but only available ones seem to have a Bench second row. I will have three in car seats, and think the Captains Chairs would be a better fit. Currently looking at one with beige interior color.

Don't get the Captains chairs, you'll regret it. I have an 04 QX with the Captains chairs, and three boys later, it sucks. Especially on a long road trip. Yes removing the center console helps with getting to the thrid seat, but the down sides is it limits you packing/bagging space having to have the thrid seat up, trust me if you have three car seat like some of us, go with the bench seat, or you will be looking for a bench seat like so many of us now, and trustme its no easy find nor is it cheap.

I have to agree with 1QonG. I had an '04 QX56 with the captain's chairs, and then an '08 Armada with the bench. Needless to say I actually paid slightly more to get my 2010 Armada with the bench seat from a dealer that was closer to me anyway. I have two boys and the bench seat is much better. More space and if the wifey needs to hop in the back seat to deal with the boys, no prob. Also, when you are hauling stuff it is all nice an even if you fold down the second row, no console to get in the way.

Thanks for the great input 1QonG and Timmbo. I appreciate the help! I will stick with the bench seat. With gas prices going the way they are, the local dealership is practically give it away.

I currently have captain chairs and in need of a bench seat since expecting my third baby. Need some help with locating or finding how to go on about. I have called Nissan dealership around my area and no one would help and the junk yards are no help either.
I own a 2006 Nissan Armada LE
Need: Dark Grey leather second row bench seat.
Help is greatly appreciated.

As I said before, I totally agree that the solid rear bench is the way to go, hopefully you can find someone close to you that would like to swap!
