I am a car guy so I did extensive research and several test drives before i bought my 2014 rogue.
2017 rogue is best selling suv in usa despite constant bashing from reviewers and magazines. There must be a reason why people like rogue so much. Only other suv i would consider is escape 2.0 ecoboost but it has poor gas mileage.
I test drove crv, rav4, mazda cx5, forester, equinox. escape, tuscon santa fe from rogue class and several other from mid size suvs.
I can share my testdrive experience about rogue vs others
Exterior: this can be subjective but i find rogue better looking than others. It also looks midsize suv while crv, rav4, escape look like minivan..
CVT: I hated it initially now i love it. I hated it because it was NEW experience for me. Now i love it because it delivers constant power, very good low rpm torque. Rav4 and other regular automatics have 0 torque at low rpm and you have to constantly feather gas pedal. I know some members in this forum complain about rogue CVT but if you check on CRV or forester forums there are more complaints about their CVT transmissions than rogue.
Space: Rogue is spacious than most of its competitor. back seat is more spacious and theater syle so back passengers have a nice view of road.
gas mileage: i get 30 in city and more than 35 on highway by keeping rpm below 2000. Remember 1.5l turbo or 2.0L turbo behaves very underpower when moving from stop sign till it hits turbo. rogues 2.5 liter provides power of 2.5l from stop sign.
Driving comfort: This is where rogue beats crv and cx5. crv and cx5 have rough ride and tighter suspension which most compact suv owners dont want. I drive 60 miles everyday to work and seats feel very comfortable. ride is very nice on highway. It can feel under powered when i floor the gas pedal but its an suv not a drag racer.
