I've read a few posts and have come to the conclusions that NAV TV would be the best solution to get dvd's to play on the main nav screen on my Q. Would anyone counter my thoughts before I go out and purchase the accessory. I'm just looking for the best quality (visually and sound) and price would not be an issue for this kind of setup. Or could it be dont easier with with some kind of DVD hack to just play dvd's? Any input would be great. Thanks

Bruce

no, not at all. I just want to be able to watch dvd's on the nav screen. I beleive the NAV TV accessory makes it possible to do that.

I read about NAV TV at the Cadillac forum. It seems to be the only workaround on these new DENSO DVD systems. There is unfortunately no easy hack. This hardware modification is basically it at this point.

While Nav TV and AV Electronic seem like good products, they still requires a separate DVD player. It merely intercepts the signal running to the LCD, and allows you to view the stock nav output, or output from a camera or external DVD player.

I am also looking to play/watch DVD movies on my stock 2002 Q45 lcd screen. Has anyone tried putting in a DVD into the stock DVD-ROM in the trunk? Does it play?

If not, is it because of the format of the disc or the player? Can you convert your existing DVD into some type of DVD-ROM format so it will play?

Only downfall to this is you dont have your NAV dvd-rom in the player then. You would have to physically walk back and swap in and out what you wanted to do. NAV or watch a DVD. Ofcourse everyone would be parked when watching their DVD movie and not driving

LASTLY, has anyone purchased any of these AVElectronic products? How well do they work and are they hard to install?

No, a normal DVD will not play in the OEM Navigation DVD unit. I'm guessing the software in the player does not recognize video files, nor does it have a MPEG video decoder.

I am looking into "NAV-TV-like" product and having a compact, DVD player installed either in the glove box or where the tape player currently resides.

I need to remove the tape deck and measure the depth. I've found in-car DVD players with mounting depths ~ 6.5".

I never play tapes, so I am also considering routing the audio through the "TAPE" input so there will be a direct line-in to the amplifier. If this does not work, then I will resort to a FM modulator.

When I was in the FM Radio business we use to pay $10,000 [in 1970 dollars] for a premium FM stereo generator/exciter to drive the power amplifers.

Today you can get a decent FM exciter that will almost meet FCC spec for under $1000 in todays dollars.

Cheapo FM car units are so poor. A quality product will give a quality sound.
