2k Max Keeps Stalling

My 2k Maxima 5spd has taken to stalling out, either when I put the car in neutral to slow to a stop or when I hold my foot on the clutch for a second before downshifting as I approach a turn. It's not predictable, but it happens almost daily. I noticed on the last tank of gas that it didn't stall for the last half of the tank, but stalled somewhat often on the first half (fuel pump, filter?). Noticed this before on some previous tanks, but haven't paid enough attention to say that it's a regular factor. And I have no SES light. To boot, the idle is all over the place..will go from ~600 to ~800, then down to ~450 and back to around ~600. It's not always steady. To the questions:

-I have 108k on the odo and original fuel filter...could this be it?-Heard that this may be a MAF issue....how can I test it?

Any other ideas/suggestions?

your filter is in the tank. you need to stop by auto zone or advance to get scanned for dtc's. could be a vac leak or maf related.
